build a multi-billion dollar "amateur" league that has nearly as big of a fanbase, tv deal and media attention as the professional league that turns its "students" into essentially professional athletes.

Why would people watch their favorite teams draft random teenagers they know nothing about? At least in the NBA and NFL drafts, almost all the players come from college athletics which are immensely popular in America. College hockey is shown on ESPN now, but it's relatively new to the vast majority of people.

Put it on a channel everyone gets/bars turn on just because. It would quadruple that of the WNBA draft. Promise.

I hate ESPN, but they need to get the rights to hockey again if it's going to grow in the US. They want the rights, but NBC won't give them up.
