The Canadiens' numbers are 20(?), 10. 19 and 6(? Jimmy Roberts?). One of the Rangers is 24.

Since he's an "A" rather than a "C", that narrows it to 1955/56 - 1970/71...

A hunch : From 66-67
Rnagers 24 is Red Berenson
Rangers 2 is Wayne Hillman
Canadiens 16 is Henri Richard
Canadiens 10 is Ted Harris
Canadiens 19 is Terry Harper
Canadiens goalie is Rogatien Vachon.

My only issue is -- I'm pretty sure Vachon always wore a mask, but I could be wrong.

Since no one wore number 24 on the Rangers before 1964/65. that narrows it to 1964/65 - 1970/71...

1964/65: Trevor Fahey
1964/65 - 1966/67: Jim Johnson
1967/68: Red Berenson
1967/68: Ron Atwell
1969/70: Mark Robitaille
1970/71: Ab DeMarco

Montreal 10 is most likely Ted Harris, unless it's 1970/71, in which case it's either Bill Collins or Frank Mahovlich.

Now, since the goalie's number starts with "2", the only options are:

1966/67 Rogie Vachon (29)
1969/70 Phil Myre (29)
1970/71 Ken Dryden (29)

Unfortunately, 1968/69 won't do, there weren't any Rangers wearing 24 during that season.

If it's Vachon, there are three possibilities:

March 12, 1967, NYR - MON 2:2
April 11, 1967 (Playoffs Game 3). NYR - MON 2:3
April 13, 1967 (Playoffs Game 4). NYR - MON 1:2

NYR: 24 Berenson
MON: 29 Vachon, 10 Harris, 16 H.Richard, 19 Harper

Please clarify thread in thread title.

I clicked here all ready to talk about the 1979 Stanley Cup Finals I remember watching in Grade 5. Esposito scoring. The Rangers taking Game 1. The Habs storming back for two big wins. The key game 4 OT winner by Serge Savard (my #1 hero that summer). The clinching game 5 win thanks to Lemaire.

And if it's Dryden in 1970/71, then there are no possibilities at all. He did play at the Garden once that season, but there was no number 10 in Montreal lineup on that day.

Well, all this fits so far.

I have to admit, I am not certain it's "2", but Hillman's face could be it.
