Who is the best player to come from each country to play for the Habs?

Canada: Jean Beliveau?

Russia: Andrei Markov?

USA: Chris Chelios

Sweden: Mats Naslund

Finland: Saku Koivu

Czechia: Tomas Plekanec

Slovakia: Richard Zednik (hopefully that will change soon :p)

Switzerland : Mark Streit

Latvia: Sergei Zholtok

Lithuania: Dainus Zubrus

France: Cristobal Huet

Germany: ???

Denmark: Lars Eller

Belarus: Andrei Kostitsyn

Poland: Mariusz Czerkawski

Austria: Tomas Vanek

Norway: Andreas Martinsen

Probably missing some nationalities but this is off the top of my head. Question marks mean I'm not sure. Russia is tough between Markov and kovalev. I thought of rucinsky over Hamrlik at first since Hammer was already in his mid 30s when the Habs got him, but ended up going with hamrlik regardless. Edit: I forgot about plekanec. It has to be pleky.

From Canada, it's naturally tough because that's the biggest pool with most history.

Is it possible that the Habs have never had a German player? There's got to be somebody, right?

I'd put Plekanec ahead of Hamrlik.

Poland: Mariusz Czerkawski

Unless we got somebody better from Poland. That didn't go very well for us lol

Yeah Poland will go to czerkawski, even though he busted here. Good memory.

I don't think anyone from Germany has played for Montréal

I thought of grabovski but he represented Belarus in international competition.

By that standard, perhaps I shouldn't list zubrus but he represented both Lithuania and Russia.

Bu that standard, I should probably not listed zubrus because I'm pretty sure he represented Russia.
Just going off of what HockeyDB tells me!

The Habs did draft an excellent German player, Dieter Hegen. He scored over 600 goals in his career, played in 5 Olympics for Germany including as captain in 1998.

As far as I remember he had no interest in playing in the NHL, something like another German legend Erich Kühnhackl (father of Tom).

There's probably a story or two on him somewhere on the internet.

Here
Chartraw and Langway are like a cheat code in a video game.

Chartraw I had no idea, up there with Owen Nolan as Irish, and Regher as a Brazilian.
