Power rankings are so diverse. It all depends what you want to base them on.

The NHL.com rankings appear to be more analytical heavy. Montreal does not show well for the analytical crowd

But if you click on the video in that link, they show ej hradek's rankings, and he has the canadiens in 3rd. His biggest criteria is recent wins against "quality" opponents.

No big deal either way for me. I'm not a power rankings guy.

"The Canadiens have the best record in the East" is a statement someone would make if they looked at one column on the standings page. "The Canadiens are tied for 11th in goal differential (which is inflated by four shootout wins), have won more shootouts than any other team and are in the bottom half of the League in both measures of puck possession" is a statement someone who is writing this right now would make.

Are these the regular season power rankings? Newsflash: Shootouts matter in the regular season!! Goal differential numbers don't take into consideration shootouts... And yeah we don't shoot very much, but we're tight defensively. We have a great goalie. And we can squeeze in tight wins and can otherwise be on both sides of blowouts which can affect goal differentials.

So I think we should be top-5, top-7 if you're pushing it.

I never take power rankings seriously. For all we know it could have been a monkey throwing crap at a wall who made this ranking.

Look at all the 'I hate that site because they didn't give the Habs respect' comments. Honestly, the ******** here never ends.

Looking more in depth at this Ranking. It's analytics heavy. And maybe we can work on some of the other areas as we move towards the playoffs... But in the time being, shootouts matter alot. Teams that face us can lose critical extra points to make the playoffs.

Instead of finishing 10th in the Conference last season, if New Jersey would have had our 2014/15 100 s/o % they would have made the playoffs and finished ahead of us. Maybe made it to the Conference finals?

If Corey Masisak doesnt feel the Habs, the current #1 team in the league (points per game they are actually 2nd behind Pittsburgh, just incase any pens fans stumble in here and get upset about the habs having more games played), doesnt deserve to be #1 for reasons he attributes to "luck", then fine. But 13th? What a joke. Here, lets discuss more "luck". Their PDO is currently ranked 9th at 101.04. Thats not really lucky. How about the "luck" factor of not being able to draw a powerplay because "thats a penalty, but not on you"? That aforementioned top team is rolling a 104 PDO, thats "luck".

Advanced stats
They are now very important, since the Leafs are using them...:D
Seriously though, we are winning, but as admitted on here, and by the team, they still have some work to do.....remember out 7-1 start could have been 2-5 so these ratings need to be taken with a grain of salt...
One thing though, everyone always says, good teams find a way to win...thanks to CP we have 31 pts in the bank...

Why watch a team play when you can just read a stats page and no everything about them?

Same reason the leafs think they have a great team! Advanced stats more important than winning apparently.

Not even mad, the guy actually says it's purely because of their numbers as an excuse to have them at 13 while they're the best team in the NHL now and went to the ECF last year. Good reporting ;)

Lol of course he's playing the 4 shoot out wins card. Funny thing is if we lose all 4 shootouts we're still tied for 1st.

As for possession stats, we are pretty low, but don't take that into account if you're gonna make no mention of goaltending.

It's even stupid because LA's advanced stats are at the same level as ours plus but somehow they deserve to be ranked 5 spots higher even though they're lower in the standings

I'm really not sure what the fuss is...
We can go out and beat Boston and NYR in their home rinks and crack the top 10? LMAO
