TRADES:

1. To Regina: can opener's 2nd overall pick and 14th rounder. To can opener - Regina's 7th overall pick and 4th rounder
2. To Trenton: #75, #94. To Laval: #67, #102

RULES:

- Players taken in ATD11 are not eligible.

- Draft window is six hours long. You can miss two picks for free. After that, you lose an hour each time. If you lose a few hours, don't panic, just come in and make your picks when you can. This is only the MLD. Picks missed overnight do not cause a penalty as long as you are the first to come in and pick.

- You will be automatically skipped if you already have a pending skipped pick, but will not lose an extra hour for this.

- You can trade if you want (there's little point) but no trading the current pick. It just lengthens the time of the pick. We want this to move quickly.

- In round 9, double picks begin. Your existing time window should be used to make both picks.

- Post something about your pick!

- Pay attention to the AAA10 all-stars. These are definitely guys who should move up to the MLD and possibly beyond. There were also some excellent picks in the AA draft. In the "Top-1000" thread I listed 72 more good picks that I personally painstakingly researched, who could maybe play in the MLD.

- Playoff format: We have two choices: Please vote for your choice.

A: Two divisions with 7 teams. Divisions are determined randomly.
B: A variation of A, with a "NHL 1968" format. Divisions are determined based on established and "expansion" teams. One expansion team will therefore make the finals. Seventies, Hedberg, GBC, chaos, papershoes, Zamboni Mania and Nalyd would be in the "established" division.

I will only rock the boat and use option B if 10 of 14 GMs agree to it. Otherwise it's random.

As for playoffs, I vote for "A" personally..I think it's better if we get more newbie (to the MLD, at least) vs oldie (or "established as you put it :P) match-ups.

I am very interested in moving up in Round 1 as high as possible.

Don't brush me off - I'm willing to pay handsomely! Try me.

This is contingent, of course, on chaosrevolver not taking my guy. I would offer him a trade, but per the rules, the active pick can't be traded.

Send me some offers.

I can't find the username of "the can opener" on the HFBoards memberlist.

I want to send him a trade offer.

the can opener is from the Leafs boards. He'll be signing up tonight. He knows he has the 2nd overall pick and I can relay any message to him. When he signs up he will be unable to post for a short while so you may need to use me.

Keep in mind though, that I'm really serious about moving up and I'll beat your offer.

I vote for option A. Not fair to the "established" guys, who have paid their dues, to put them all in one division.

Looks like it's A then. No biggie. I was probably leaning towards B, because that will help the fan interest in the new markets going forward, but I'm sure most of you will be back anyway.

Okay, I'm going to try to make this before 10. I wasn't expecting 1st overall (2nd MLD in a row!) but uh...just going to review some guys.

That is pretty lucky; is that the first time that has occured in any sort of all-time draft, minor-league draft, etc..?

Not sure, I wish it would happen in the ATD to be honest...

With the first overall pick in the 11th edition of the Minor League Draft...the Belleville Bulls select:

G: Viktor Konovalenko

Kuklas Korner IIHF Inductions said:
Until Vladislav Tretiak came along, Viktor Konovalenko was the best Soviet goalie of all time. In nine World Championships, capturing 8 gold medals and 1 bronze. He also captured gold in the 1964 and 1968 Olympics.

Pitseleh said:
Konovalenko was a seven time all-star goaltender in the Soviet league between 1963-1970. We have Soviet league MVP voting results for the '68-'70 seasons, and Konovalenko was league MVP in 1970 and was third in MVP voting in 1968.

VanIslander said:
There are Russians who watched 60's-80's soviet hockey who claim he was better than Tretiak. He CERTAINLY is main ATD worthy, and in fact was backup in the championship series in both ATD8 and ATD9.

Solid first round MLD pick. Expected no less from you pits.

Nice pick chaos, had him on my list for my first rounder. Good job kicking things off :handclap:

I narrowd my short list down to five guys...and I really figured that you couldn't go wrong with any one of them.

There is another goalie I believe to be on Viktor's level..maybe just a bit below..probably missing a few too. But I went with a pretty safe pick knowing he's well-liked by many in the draft to be a first rounder in the MLD.

Like I said, well done. I also have one other goaltender on Kono's level, so we're most likely thinking of the same guy. But there's no doubt Viktor's a safe pick, and kudos to you for that.

I talked on the phone with the can opener on the way to football three hours ago. Truth is stranger than fiction. he lives in Toronto and is helping out his girlfriend's sister whose basement is flooded thanks to a crazy storm. He definitely wants to still participate but he realizes he can't get to a computer tonight to sign up at the site, and then research who is available, and make a pick.

I told him I'd take his 2nd overall pick off his hands and I didn't yet know what Zamboni Mania had offered so I made sure to make an offer that would be better than whatever he proposed. It turns out that I did - I gave him my 1st and 4th, for can opener's 1st and 14th. So he gets a 10-round bump instead of two two-round bumps, and has to drop only 5 spots instead of 100.

He said to go ahead and post it and make the pick, and he'll confirm when he gets back. So I'm doing that.

To Regina: can opener's 2nd overall pick and 14th rounder
To can opener - Regina's 7th overall pick and 4th rounder

And, now for my pick:

Konovalenko is a great goalie, probably the 2nd-best in the draft. But he is no.....

Tom Barrasso

I will PM papershoes and kruezer.

****. Had a feeling this was coming, especially with you trying to trade up so furiously seventies. Definitely an ATD worthy goaltender, and #1 on my list for available players. Great pick.

News Bulletin!

The MLD's "Old Reliable' is back. VanIslander, who wasn't going to have time for the MLD, made time after all. I'm glad we have him back and that we made it to 15 teams, but this raises a couple of interesting questions:

1. How do I slot him into our existing draft order? I could just throw him in at the end of round 1, but at the same time I don't want to tick anyone off.

2. One division is going to have to have a team with a bye now. No big deal, but once I randomly create divisions, whichever one has 7 teams, know that if you win that division you get a break.
