Willie Mays, CF IS CONSIDERED BY MANY TO BE AMONG THE BEST ALL-AROUND PLAYERS IN BASEBALL HISTORY. “If somebody came up and hit .450, stole 100 bases and performed a miracle in the field every day, I’d still look you in the eye and say Willie was better.” – Leo Durocher @Dr Pepper

Ricky Henderson, LF used the ultimate combination of power and speed to break numerous major league baseball records during his career. But what solidified his place in baseball history was his love for the game. "If my uniform doesn't get dirty, I haven't done anything in the baseball game," Henderson said.

Frank Robinson, 1B/OF had the ability and intensity on the diamond that few possess. And he simply was impossible to intimidate. “Pitchers did me a favor when they knocked me down,” Robinson said. “It made me more determined. I wouldn’t let that pitcher get me out. They say you can’t hit if you’re on your back, but I didn’t hit on my back. I got up.” Robinson was also recognized as one of the most feared baserunners of his era and showed reckless abandon on the base paths. @Dr Pepper

Joe Morgan, 2B
“I have never seen anyone, and I mean anyone, play better than Joe has played this year.” – Cincinnati Reds manager Sparky Anderson in 1975. Comparable in size to early 20th century players at 5-foot-7, 160 pounds, Joe Morgan instead was perfectly suited to the artificial surface game of the 1970s, when he emerged as one of the key cogs in Cincinnati’s Big Red Machine. In the Reds’ back-to-back World Series championship years in 1975-76, Morgan won back-to-back MVP awards in the National League, as well as two of his five consecutive Gold Glove Awards. @Dr Pepper

Bob Gibson, RHP “Gibby is one of baseball’s greatest competitors.” – Stan Musial. Bob Gibson may well have been the most intimidating pitcher in history. He was certainly one of the most successful. @Dr Pepper

He entered the game with not just mere potential. From the day the Seattle Mariners made him the first pick in the 1987 MLB Draft, Ken Griffey Jr. was expected to be great. Twenty-two seasons, 630 home runs and a sea of accolades later, the kid dubbed “The Natural” delivered everything his skills and makeup promised. @Dr Pepper

Known as “The Wizard of Oz,” Ozzie Smith combined athletic ability with acrobatic skill to become one of the greatest defensive shortstops of all time.

The 13-time Gold Glove Award winner redefined the position in his nearly two decades of work with the San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals, setting the all-time record for assists by a shortstop.

Smith’s talent was evident to those who saw him come up with the Padres in the late 1970s. “Ozzie is the best young infielder I’ve ever seen,” said San Diego manager Roger Craig at the time. “Very soon he’s going to be one of the best shortstops in baseball, if not the best.”

Hall of Fame pitcher Gaylord Perry added: “I saw him as a rookie in San Diego. I was always hoping they would hit the ball his way because I knew then that my trouble was over.” @Dr Pepper

“To play this game good, a lot of you has to be a little boy.” – Roy Campanella

It was a career started late due to the color of his skin, and ended early after a tragic auto accident.

In between, Roy Campanella blazed across the baseball landscape with 10 years of catching perfection.

“Nobody discovered Campanella,” said Dodgers scout Clyde Sukeforth, who recommended Campanella to the Dodgers. “We looked at him and there he was.

“There was never any question about his ability.” @Dr Pepper

By 1990, Ramón was a 20-game winner in the big leagues – and Pedro was one of the Dodgers’ top prospects, despite his 5-foot-11 frame that carried less than 150 pounds in those days.

“I know who I am and where I came from,” Martínez said in 2011. “And I will never forget.”

In 1993, Pedro got regular work in the Dodgers’ bullpen, posting a 10-5 record in 65 games while striking out 119 batters in 107 innings. But following the season, the Dodgers traded Martínez to the Expos for second baseman. @Dr Pepper
