It's embarrassing that it took 70 years to get a unanimous inductee (whoever left Maddux and Griffey off their ballots should've lost their voting privileged), but I can't think of a more perfect guy to break the barrier than Mo. Revolutionary player, dominant from the start of his career to the end. Great human being too, does a lot of charity work, never caught in a scandal. I hate the Yankees as much as anyone, but nothing but respect for Mo.

I'm glad the voters got over the positional snobbery and inducted a closer and a DH. Edgar is well deserving, as is Halladay.

I have qualms with Mussina. It's not that he's an undeserving guy, but 1. I don't quite know what separates him from Schilling (aside from Curt being a complete turd after he retired), and 2. He wouldn't have gotten in so quickly if not for the blacklisting of the PED guys. But I figure he would've got in eventually, so I don't see it as a terrible choice by any means.

Mussina had 1 year with a sub 3.00 ERA. Halladay had 6 I believe. Schilling is a HOF if Mussina is. Probably an intentional snub.

Curt Schilling is a racist.F him.

10 years ago I helped a friend who owned a bar in Chicago that was Boston themed to host a fund raiser for a charity started by Curt's wife and we raised a lot of money.

Notice that we had the BRUINS game on.

Schilling actually asked if we could put the FLYERS game on as he hated the Bruins.

The man has no sense of PR.

ESPN was paying him $2 million a year AFTER the 38 Studios debacle in Rhode Island and told him to stay off Twitter - and he could not do it.

Doesn’t matter what he is. It shows every year the nonesense that is the HOF voting.

He's a borderline case getting 60% of the vote. He's not exactly being blackballed.

He'll get in eventually anyway so it doesn't matter. Just one more year he has to live with it, which I enjoy.

I believe that as well that lack of CY Young award is what hurts him in this. You would think though that his post season performance would compensate for it.

Post season, he was spectacular. No doubt, but for HOF consideration, he was never even the best pitcher in either league for the regular season. Hard to say he belongs in the hall, when he was good but not great.

That I can agree with. The people getting in now I find comical. HOF standards have dropped dramatically.

Mussina also spent his entire career in the AL East, during the steroid era when the AL East was a monster.

This year's class is a great omen for Ortiz getting in and likely 1st ballot.

Edgar breaks the DH barrier, and Mo is the 1st unanimous election and is a specialist

They have and I think that's how he eventually gets in. If Mussina is in, he definitely belongs in because he was a better pitcher than Moose. And that's the problem with letting in fringe type of guys. Once you open the doors to one of them 100 more guys have a case to be made for their inclusion. This is why a guy like Harold Baines getting elected is more of a problem than if they had kept him out.

I get not liking Mussina but he should be in the hall pitching during that era and getting 270 wins... They put Blyleven in.. Jack Morris....

I don’t care for much of anything that comes out of Curt Schilling’s mouth, but it’s hard to say he’s not a hall of famer given his stats and longevity.

Is he a somewhat ignorant bigot? Yes. But we’d have to withdraw a ton of names from the HoF, especially if you go back a few decades, if that was part of the qualifying process.

But it is, because his case is borderline. In fact, without his post-season numbers it owuld be pretty clear cut he is not. He's getting a ton of credit for being a big game pitcher, but that isn't enough to make him a slam dunk.

Do I think some voters might be letting their distaste for Curt Schilling the human being influence their vote? Yes. Do I think the number is so small as to be insignificant? Yes.

He's a borderline case who still got 60% of the vote. He's going to get in eventually, just like a borderline case Edgar Martinez. There's no grand conspiracy against Curt Schilling, he's just not a slam dunk.
