Mistake Hockey: New Trend/Buzz Words Of New Season

I've now heard multiple hockey media people talk about how they love to see mistake hockey over fundamental/structured hockey. They want to see BOTH coaches angry after games because that equates to an entertaining game. They also want to see young teams with under 30 year olds because that also in their minds equates to mistake type hockey.

I've coached for many years (not hockey ;another sport) , play fantasy hockey , have an exciting fast up tempo team I cheer for in hockey ... BUT I don't want my team playing mistake hockey on a nightly basis. I don't find that fun or get a chuckle out of it like MANY others in media and hockey community seem to want this year.

Why is this a "new trend" ?? What am I missing ? Your thoughts different than mine , why if so ?

Never heard anyone use that term.

Unless I have mistake memory.

Simply, different people have different taste. I don't think anyone wants their own team to play mistake hockey though, but for media (and I guess for neutral fans to a lesser extent) it's more juicy.

Sirius XM shows, Top hockey podcast shows etc. It's been out there , trust me.

One guy was glad for excitement level of Laine beating his Leafs:shakehead Again the debate of seeing mistakes instead of gap control hockey was his example.

I'm not saying Bobby Mac and Tier A media guys are talking this on regular basis ,but it's very much trend words of the season.

I don't mind it. The games that turn into river hockey games can be highly entertaining, as long as your favourite team isn't getting blown out in the process. That said, I do appreciate well-executed plays, and I'd say it's preferable to have two teams playing high-end structured hockey than unstructured, so long as their structure isn't completely stifling/boring on both ends.

I watch hockey as a fan, to be entertained. I would FAR rather sit through a sloppy, wild, back-and-forth game than a completely contained, controlled, mistake-free game.

I'd like the other team to play mistake hockey, mine to be structured.

So far it's been the reverse. :/

Why do you think the WJCs are so popular? Because it's full of mistakes...which leads to crazy momentum shifts, lots of goals, back-and-forth scoring, last minute goals, etc. They haven't been trained to be mistake-free pros yet.

Now look at Canada vs. Sweden at the 2014 Olympics...an absolute pinnacle of mistake-free hockey by Canada (and Sweden was very well coached too)...but how many people are going to ever call that game a classic?

The World JRs stay in their yard. NHL in their yard. I'm BIGGEST WJR fan for 25 years plus now. That is another reason being thrown around on these podcasts/segments. Are you part of the media I'm talking about:laugh::laugh: Virtanen type plays last Christmas not welcomed on my NHL team:handclap:

I am most entertained when watching a 5 man unit operate as if they were one, and execute their assignments consistently and skillfully

People only like sloppy hockey because some people think more goals = more fun, which I simply disagree with

Watching millionaire athletes not do their job very well can only entertain me so much*, eventually it gets boring and frustrating

*unless it's a team I hate, then by all means, have yourself an 'exciting' night

Exactly. That's the new era of hockey evolution. Not 6-5 sloppy games every other night. Great points:handclap:

What is ''Mistake Hockey''? Are we talking about things like the Pens - Flyers series from a few years ago, if so then I guess I'm a fan.
