Mirko “Cro Cop” announces retirement due to a stroke

In an emotional interview he said that after the Nelson fight the troubles he had with his neck got worse. He was turning his head left and right and suddenly all went black. He lost consciousness and was taken to hospital. Later diagnosed with a stroke. Doctors told he the next one could very well be lethal.

Sad to hear but it was probably time for him to retire. Hope he fully recovers from the stroke. One of my favourites back in the Pride days. He disappointed in the UFC but will still go down as a legend. 15 years ago, he was the most dangerous striker in MMA. One of my favourite kickboxer's of all time too.

I wasn't a fan of MMA yet, but the stare down between him and Wanderlei before their fight in Pride is still one of the most intense things I've ever seen in sports. Scary dude. Wish him well in retirement.
