How does playing bottom pairing not prepare you for being an NHL defenseman? Again, this isn't a 4th liner playing 8 minutes a night. 15-18 minutes at the NHL level prepares you for any role.

Spurgeon himself played 15 minutes a night his rookie year.

I am basing this completely off what they said about his usage. Spurgeons usage is PP and offensive zone starts i think? Bottom pairing probably has more defensive zone starts and worse lines to play with? I am unsure as I do not have a complete breakdown of the entire usage over the season to know much about it all however all my comments are based off them stating they see him in a role similar to Spurgeon and continued to use Benn over him when Dumba was hurt. This is why I say he is Spurgeons successor only because of their comments and usage of him. I could easily see him fill Dumbas shoes just fine minus the hitting but that does not seem to be their view, by their I mean coaches and GM.

The bottom pairing is often matched up against third and fourth lines, which usually results in playing versus more physical opponents. Addison may or may not have been quite ready for a full season’s worth of pounding.

A big part of Addison's value(hopefully), is his ability to run a PP, and to be a factor offensively. Ideally, he would play with a defensively minded LHD who can cover for him a bit, make up for his lack of size and strength, and defer to him in puck carrying situations. Middleton would be an example.
He can add a lot of value to this team if he plays 3rd pairing, runs a PP, and is paid less than 2M/yr.

Stating the obvious here, but a good defense is partly getting the right players for the right roles. I am not looking for Addison to be a crease clearing, physical defensive stopper. You would hope that ROR would be that for us in the future, and a good match to play with Addison.

It’s probably irrational but I hope we move Addison. He just isn’t a great fit with the other pieces we have on the roster and in the system. Use him and Kulikov to get Boldy & Rossi a legit linemate and form a respectable 3rd pair from some combination of Goligoski, Merrill, ROR, Lambos, Hunt etc.

I don’t see how he fits other than 3rd pairing PP specialist. Spurgeon is going to be here for at least 2-3 more years. Dumba will be replaced by Faber.

I agree with the last two comments. I don’t view Addison as long for this organization. Faber will be filling Dumba’s spot right out of the gate, possibly as soon as late this year.

I think the question is whether Addison can hold up on an NHL blue line without being a consistent liability combined with just how good he can QB a power play. If he can be someone who can run a top unit at a high level, you can find a spot on your everyday pairings and deal with the miscues. At this point, I’d lean closer to questioning whether he can be an effective NHL defender over believing he can run a top NHL PP successfully. That’s the main reason why I’m not a real believer in his prospects and based on how the organization is handling him and the overall NHL blue line, it does seem like they have some questions as well.

Addison too small for a defenseman imo, struggels to stay up here. Not an Evason guy.

1. What pieces are already in place for the 2025-26 cup run?

2. And what assets will turn into such outcome? One goal should to have ELC's on top prospects at that time, perhaps. Maybe even trade the first pick in 2024 (and some) for a 2023 pick.

Fleury had a -17.6 goals saved above expected. That is God awful. Maybe Minnesota will help, but Fleury has been pretty uneven his entire career.

He's one of the most streaky goalies I've ever seen. Guys as streaky as he is don't usually end up career starters, nor have long careers, which really speaks to his skill level when he's on. I sure hope he's on next year.

So his worst full season is still better than what we have had most of the last decade then?

I’m not a stat guy. My take on Fluery is that he will make the incredible save and loves to embellish, especially on glove saves. Will let in a softy at times but who doesn’t? Great guy in the room and has won Stanley Cups. I’m in.
I hope Cam and his wife enjoy Ottawa.
