MINI ATD - ONE PLAYER PER FRANCHISE

Rules and Information:

- All-time, you can only draft 1 player from each franchise, 12 F, 6 D, 2 G + 1 Coach (doesn't count towards franchise count).

- A player will be judged on his ENTIRE CAREER not just the portion he played for his qualifying team.

- Players that played for multiple teams count for the team they spent their peak/prime years with, a player is only eligible for ONE franchise (Hawkey Town 18 will make the final decision on close calls, no time for voting and whatnot).

- Players whose peak/primes occurred outside the NHL count for their country, and you can only have 1 player per country (i.e. if you draft Sergei Makarov he counts for Russia/USSR). Czech Rep. and Slovakia are one country because virtually every player that would be drafted would have played for CSSR.

- Franchises that moved all count as one (i.e. players who played for the Whalers count for the same franchise as players who played for the Hurricanes)

- Players whose peak/primes were with a pre-NHL team that no longer exists count for a pre-NHL franchise, this includes all PCHA, WCHL, NHA, etc.

- The old Senators and new Senators count as the same franchise.

- The Montreal Maroons count as their own franchise, so do the NY Americans

- 12 hour clock for the entire draft, but please be available to check in multiple times per day most of the time.

- NO TRADING, but you can swap full sets of picks before your first pick is made.

The rules will be edited soon but you can find them in the other thread.

Drafting can begin, unless you want to swap your entire set of picks (before you make your first pick).

Man the rule is already making things complicated for me.

I'd be willing to move my draft picks if someone is interested.

Alright. There are three guys who could defensibly go first, and usually, positional depth drives that decision.

I'm going to pick the guy who didn't play for an O6 team. There will be a few big names from this team drafted, but only one of them is by far the top offensive force in the draft, with the ability to elevate practically any linemate:

OK, not that team.

From the Edmonton Oilers, Wayne Gretzky.

Everyone knows this, but friendly reminder to please PM the next guy up after you've announced your pick.

GM's PLEASE READ

I created a table in the OP to keep track of which GM has drafted from each franchise. I tried to list every relevant franchise, but it's certainly possible that I may have missed one or two, so please do not think that is the end all-be all list of eligible franchises.

I'll pick a player from a team that SUCKED during the O6 era (though was excellent just before and just after).

This draft just begs to allow trading! Otherwise, the weight on one's initial choice is huge. I like the atmosphere of pre-planning. But I think such a draft would be also more interesting if we could trade while we went along (given the restrictions).

I'm just saying...

This would be a fun variation if we decide to do this type of draft again. I think you'd need people to really be committed as I think the trading would become a big part of it. Also, does the one player rule also apply to drafting or can you trade your Pittsburgh player for a second Canadien?

Cleary I was at the worst possible spot in the draft. Not sure if this is the right strategy, we shall see.

Wow I thought BB was going to make my decision for me but I guess not. I need a little time to think about this but won't be too long.

The best part is no one really knows what the best strategy is...This is going to be fun.

Well I have a couple of ideas. I know there's a few teams I absolutely don't want to draft from unless I am forced to because the value is just too good.

BTW, BB, thanks so much for setting up that chart. It's going to be really helpful.

Hawkey Town 18 did it.

I understand BB's strategy and I'm not 100% sure I'm doing the right thing here, but this guy is just too good and too easy to build around for me to pass up.

The Chicago Cougars select Gordie Howe, RW (Detroit)
