Fiala was really bad today. He can win you games, but he can also lose you games.

I also don't understand why Ek starts the OT. Just stick Kaprizov Zucc Brodin out there and have Kap do the faceoff. I have little doubt that Kaprizov is better than Ek at faceoffs.

Gaudreau has been the only center in the last 4 months who has been consistently around 50% on the dot. Should be starting Gaudreau, Fiala and a defender. Win or lose you have a good line out there, and if you get control long enough for a line change with possession you can get Kaprizov and Zucc out there together with possession without having to win a faceoff.

Seriously. It really says something about your other centers when the guy you put out as a face-off specialist is a 46.8% draw man. I'm fairly certain it doesn't matter who is taking draws for this team.



Oh hey, Zuccarello broke the franchise assist record today. Nice! Congrats to him. Now he just has to outpace Kaprizov for the next 8 games to keep it.

Agree, poor FO limits your offence throughout the whole game, O zone faceoff losses equal no one timer's for screens or tips off the draw.

That's the main reason that our special teams are so bad, I think. Otherwise, we seem to have the talent for both the PK and PP.
Unfortunately, Rossi is not good on FO's either. Dewar is decent, but by no means anything special, and he isn't a sure thing to be anything more than a call up. Guerin either has to focus on getting a C who can win FO's in the off season ( Jost is not it), or Evason has to figure out a way to coach them up.
Once you are playing against really good teams who are more or less your equal, winning FO's at key times can be the decider.

!00% agree, also our team is very good offensively, now just think how much better they could be if they didn't waste half a shift just trying to get the puck back 75% of the time. Would be nice see these guys go straight to offence 75% of the time rather than defense.

Career wise just under 50%. His play besides FO's doesn't make him much of a candidate as anything but a part time #4C, though. He's not a candidate for the PP, and Evason doesn't play him on the PK much.
JEE is a guy who needs to better on FO's. I give Hartman a pass but he hasn't been a C before this. Gaudreau has been ok - just under 50%.
