He was only there a year and he worked exclusively with forwards. But that plus like 9 years as either an NHL head coach or NHL assistant gives him a pretty unique resume that none of the other candidates came close to.

I don't doubt that his end game is to pad his resume and get back to being a viable NHL head coaching candidate again but his emphasis on teaching and developing is pretty significant even for an AHL HC.

Fair points all.

But not all ex NHL head coaches are desperate to get back to that high pressure job of being a HC in the NHL, in the AHL he's able to develop (which seems like something he might actually like) and coach and not have a coach fire him after 1 good season and then a mediocre start the next year. In the AHL, he's allowed to test things out as well.

Larry Robinson for example, he isn't a terrible coach, but he prefers to be an Assistant coach, doesn't want to be a head coach. I also think Jacques Martin could have found a HC job this summer as well, chose to stay with the Pens and some weird job they made up for him and now he's a 3rd AC that chills in the press box.

The turn over here is bewildering. The old guy is strangely better qualified. Johnson's departure is evident. Will this organization ever get it together? sigh

What's more bewildering is how "Wanted" everybody is just because they work or did work in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. Franchise has been a failure for 6 playoff seasons but getting another NHL job is never a problem.:amazed:
