Barzal - A - he has the best defensive lines against him
You can copy the list and add your own grades.....

PlayerGPGAP+/-Grade
Mathew Barzal41122638-5(A) - best defenses against him, he has no sophomore jinx
Anders Lee4115163114(B+) - proves he can play without JT, improved defense, bad penalties
Josh Bailey418233110(B) - proves he can play without JT, methodical at times to a fault
Brock Nelson4115142914(A-) - has shown to be a solid 2 way player and has improved a lot this year
Valtteri Filppula39910196(A) - team would not be where it is now without him, needed him 2 years ago
Jordan Eberle3781018-7(D) - his numbers are well below where they should be and he is a defensive nightmare
Ryan Pulock41315180(A) - solid defender, some offense, but just seeing the offense happen is a blessing
Casey Cizikas341071712(A+) - the heart of the roster, career high in goals, and penalty killing wizard
Anthony Beauvillier4011516-3(C) - on pace for 20 goals, but has regressed and is really bad defensively
Scott Mayfield393121515(A) - most improved player, limited mistakes, surprising
Leo Komarov41591411(B+) solid physical player and PK player, limited offense
Nick Leddy4111314-2(C) - he was awful the first 25 games and has picked it up, still a very key component to the team
Johnny Boychuk4037105(A+) - MVP of team, really had a flawless first half
Matt Martin305384(B+) - much better than I thought, he has impact on a lot of games with limited toolbox
Adam Pelech383589(B) - he has grown but some of his mishaps have stood out
Andrew Ladd143473(INC) - this guy should retire
Cal Clutterbuck37257-3(C) - good on the PK, poor on the PP, his game is less effective these days
Tom Kuhnhackl193361(INC) - he doesn't play enough to evaluate
Thomas Hickey320448(D) - he plays 100% but is ineffective due to size and skill set
Devon Toews72137(INC) has not played enough
Ross Johnston110332(INC) has not played enough
Luca Sbisa80110(INC _ has not played enough
Michael Dal Colle7011-1(INC) - has not played enough

Don't want to grade everyone, but will say I've been incredibly impressed and somewhat shocked at the performance of Brock (formerly Brick) Nelson.

Others:

Devon Toews has become by favourite Islander, along with Barzal. I think he's going to be an excellent defenseman for (hopefully) a long time. He's so poised and smart and he thinks the game so quickly - very impressive.

Komarov, Filppula have been better than expected additions, Cizikas has been excellent, Mayfield has been a surprise, and lastly, I like what I'm seeing from Michael Dal Colle. He's looking more comfortable and confident (still timid more than I'd hoped)

Barry Trotz is a superstar.

Pretty much sums it all up, but the one player you did not mention has been our best player in Boychuk, inevitably saves 1-2 odd man rushes per game

I'm reluctant to mention his name. I had to wait to mid-season to mention Brock, Johnny scares me with his injury history but he's been a ROCK. He's the type of player Trotz gets a lot out of. Their style of play suits Boychuk (and has made Mayfield/Pelech look much more stable with each passing game). I'd forgotten what a great coach could do. I thought most of these players were hopeless.

I gave Greiss an A.

I gave Barzal a B+ because in order for him to earn an A he would have to perform the was he has in the last 10 games the whole season.

I thought most of these players were hopeless.

In the case of the Islanders it is going from having a minus coach to a plus coach which makes things even seem more pronounced for the coach, they have been so badly coached for so long between the inexperience of Gordon, the overly friendly approach of Cappy and the smugness of Weight that even a mediocre coach (e.g. Ruff) would look great, but Trotz is in an Arbour/Bowman class for sure

Boychuk, plays so hard, and he has been the best stay at home dman in this season that the Isles have had in such a long time. Inevitably he breaks up an odd man rush and that can turn the game around, not sure who is more of the ideal Trotz player, him or Cizikas, but they have prospered under Trotz for sure

We are pretty close on our ratings, Greiss was great when Lehner was not, but I gave him a B because he is not able to sustain great performances over a few games.

Barzal gets the A from me, mainly because it is his 2nd year and with no JT, he is getting draped on endlessly, he has picked up from where he left off last year

Bailey - F-
Trottz and Lou = A

Bones - A+ (as usual)

Bones = consistency (coach's pet, teacher's pet) - I'll stop there before it gets out of hand.

----

Barzal gets an A no matter his stats. Even when he wasn't good, he was good. And recently he's been great. For a player who's all-offense, all-the-time, even when he's not scoring, he's in the offensive zone so often. The turnovers will always drive Trotz crazy and he'll help Barzal morph into a Backstrom over time.

Mathew Barzal41122638-5B+ he’s had some growing pains under Trotz but is still well on his way to being s better player than the snake maybe ?
Anders Lee4115163114A- great leader perfect Trotz guy he will be our captain for many years
Josh Bailey418233110B+ he is still a solid player who we’d miss if he wasn’t here.
Brock Nelson4115142914A lol who is this guy, Trotz has done wonders for his career and his wallet this summer
Valtteri Filppula39910196B he has done more than expected
Jordan Eberle3781018-7D he needs to score and for most part he hasn’t done much.
Ryan Pulock41315180B- has played better in his zone then expected the offense will come eventually
Casey Cizikas341071712A -total heart and soul dude just needs to stay healthy
Anthony Beauvillier4011516-3C I expected more he hasn’t had great year but he is streaky scorer
Scott Mayfield393121515A right their with Brock as Trotz most impact guy.
Leo Komarov41591411C I don’t know he is good in room and is ok on penalty killer. I guess he has done what we expected.
Nick Leddy4111314-2C he has played better as team has, not a great offensive defenseman who will get replaced on top unit soon by Toews IMO
Johnny Boychuk4037105B another leader, Needs to stay healthy
Matt Martin305384C+ done more than expected, can still play a bit and good guy in room
Adam Pelech383589C+. I don’t know he has been ok overall but could be guy that gets replaced when Aho gets here
Andrew Ladd143473D. Will we ever see him again?
Cal Clutterbuck37257-3C. Plays better with the 4th line renacted but he won’t be here in a couple years
Tom Kuhnhackl193361C depth guy who hasn’t played enough really to tell
Thomas Hickey320448C+ gets too much hate he is a good 3rd pair nhler
Devon Toews72137Inc. but he is well on his way to being a core defenseman
Ross Johnston110332Inc never plays, very tough clearly maybe he can be another Martin
Luca Sbisa80110Inc. I’d like to see him go to Bridgeport for depth when they waive him when Hickey returns
Michael Dal Colle7011-1Inc. maybe we have something?
