It's sad how much this guy has regressed over the years. He had a couple of good 25+ goal seasons then progressed to nothing lately. What a waste of picks.:shakehead

He was also playing with an ~80 pt center those years (Tavares), not 4th liners.

Using 1 or 2 words describe Grabner. I like to say he is "dead weight".

I really don't understand why he is in the lineup, not including Nylander there are a ton of kids on the Marlies who deserve to be called up. Leivo (I know I spelt his name wrong) to begin with.

He's an excellent penalty killer and not a defensive liability in the least at even strength. Therefore he isn't nothing when he isn't scoring. We may be witnessing him being re-purposed into a role player. Boyes has produced more but Grabner is the more reliable of the two. And he's going to start scoring a little bit soon. It's an experienced player like this who can skate and handle the puck at an NHL level taking 3rd or 4th line minutes in place of some overmatched young guy that is another reason why the Leafs have become competitive.

Grabner currently is a 4th line PK specialist. Is there really any of our prospects you'd like to take that role?

Grabner hasn't hurt us and Babcock inserting him in the lineup game after game indicates that he is able to grasp and execute the system. That being said, at age 27 his offense has just become non existent. You have to be careful of the players who are not high level, every player (if you look through their yearly stat lines) has about 2 great years, be it Grabner/Clarkson/Bickel/Clowe/Belesk/Parenteau etc. Before they revert to the norm. That's were big dollar signings hurt your franchise. Determining what the NHL norm is.

people talk like he should be scoring every game....I'll repeat...he plays on the 4th line. Like this guy is lucky if he gets 8-10 mins if that. How the hell is this guy supposed to do anything? Plus, I thought just looking at stat lines was voodoo around here. The guy has done his job that's pretty much all I'm going to say about this. I think I've made my point clear. The guy has dropped off a bit over the years I'll give you guys that, but at the same time again I'll repeat he gets traded over here and he's basically been a 4th liner for us. Look at the situation he's in.

he's been s tad little better of late albeit in a 4th line role
getting some chances

If you're on the 4th line and getting chances I'm pretty sure that's all you can expect really. A few goals and a few points here and there but I mean really...the guy isn't going to produce getting limited time plain and simple.

He played himself on to the 4th line. Nobodys fault for that but his own. If I recall, he started the season in the top 6.

If I had to guess, this is likely his last season in the NHL. He's just not good enough anymore.

didnt really expect much from him when we got him, now hes not really doing much, so theres that

but i still thought he'd look and perform a tad better than he has as of now, hes disappointed but u kinda expected a disappointment...so i guess hes playing fine...one of few guys that should be gone in favor of some marlies though, i even thought arcobello was better

To be picky, he started the year as a healthy scratch. He's been tried all over the lineup, some time in the top 6. But only recently has he had a consistent role. And you are absolutely right that he played himself into where he is.

I think he's just in Babcock's doghouse. Weiss was in a similar spot where he was obviously producing in his 4th line role, but not being given chances.

This really sucks becuase I was so hype for the trade. The move was probably for contract space, you can't be a team trading roster players for futures with 49 contracts on deck. That said, Toronto seemed like the perfect place for Grabner to rehab himself. Getting outlet passes from Gardiner and Rielly and using that speed to beat defenders? <3. Has he even been used in 3 on 3? It totally seems like his element.

With his speed and defending abilities it would only make sense to play him 3 on 3.

War On Ice is stating that he has 31 seconds a game in over time 3 vs 3 format. So he gets 1 shift a game. Again limited playing time.

He's fast... But I don't see the same speed that made him a 30 goal scorer years ago. He had elite speed then. I wouldn't call his speed elite anymore.

I expected 10 goals 10 assists from him. Get maybe a 5th. Now? Not so much.

Grabner is still more valuable to us than Kessel. Grabner plays that D-game unlike kessel never does nore can. And Grabner can kill that penalty, kessel can't. Grabner also doesn't polute our team nore make it negative. He a team player. Grabner is faster than kessel but can't score that many. Kessel though makes other teams worse.
