There are some in the media who can't make a living unless they are being anti Leaf. As they pass into history they will cry all the louder. But in their defense this is a team which wins without playing defense mostly. We have actually allowed more goals then we have scored. Corsi this and corsette that.A bizarre team that wins. I mean how do you coach agsint them," Just go out and outshoot them boys, we are bound to lose."

LOL. That's the thing, isn't it? How the hell do other teams plan for a team like us? We don't adhere to very many "rules".

Straight from the Ducks website.

The Bad: Quantity over quality. The Ducks had a ton of shots, but very few of any real consequence. It was a lot of shots from outside, with no screen directly into the leaf on Bernier's chest.

Something gives you that little extra pep in your step when the leafs win in commanding fashion when you do the GDT for that game!

Usually a tight forecheck and having their D pinch down when the Leafs are attempting to get the puck out of the zone works well against them and causes turnovers.

The Ducks were forechecking like crazy in the first 5 - 10 minutes and the Leafs couldn't get anything going. Not sure why they got away from that plan.

RC's style of collapsing to the front of the net makes opponents' defensemen pinch more than they normally do and fall victim to our speedy forwards' counter attacks. How often have we scored on odd-man rushes or as a result of the pressure immediately afterwards?

I believe it was one of the players a couple weeks ago (I think it was Franson) that said that some teams play very differently against the Leafs in terms of puck possession/shot quality.

Going into a game versus X team, they would have a very low Shots For statistic but then after the game against the Leafs they would have over 35 shots, which is very abnormal for that X team.

Seems very obvious that teams believe they can create their scoring chances by peppering the goaltenders which opens up more chances for soft/average goals or for rebounds. Bernier has a penchant for very soft goals, while Reimer can be a rebound giving machine in a lot of games. It also doesn't help that the Leafs leave the points open and collapse infront of the net, which can create a huge amount of shots from the perimeter.

Either that or the scouting report is that the Leafs have poor goaltending but it's never been updated from the 2010-2011 season.

The Leafs are a transition team with not a whole lot of puck possession. It's not a secret, it's nothing overly bad either. I don't think it's a style that wins long-term but Leafs have shown the ability to be able to win with that style.

The Leafs showed promise of possession yesterday, including some extended shifts in the ducks zone in the 3rd period while the clock was running down and they were protecting a lead.

They can build off small moments like that to build confidence towards moving away from a rush only team and prove to themselves with hard work they can play defense via puck possession.

It was probably the most important period of hockey they've played all year IMO. They passed quite the test there.

I hate to say it, but Franson has actually looked decent the last few games. If you take away his egregious miskates he's a useful guy. The problem is his egregious mistakes, and you can't have a guy in your top 4 (making top 4 money next season) who makes so many obvious blunders.

That's just it with Franson. These days he is pretty physical and is even developing a bit of a mean streak, and we all know he is good offensively. The defensive side of things is actually good and effective, except for the brainfarts. It's frustrating because it's just one aspect of his game that makes him a liability, but on the other hand he's had enough experience by now to have eliminated that from his game. I don't think he will ever be a safe defenseman, but I have a sneaking feeling that Leafs management aim to be patient and give him more time.

I think Perry was the most impressive player this game though. He is just ridiculously strong, the way he shrugged off hits from guys like Phaneuf, Ranger and Franson and just continued to drive the play was amazing. Felt almost unstoppable in a game where we really controlled everyone else pretty well.

And to think he was a late first round pick. It's why I shrug off posts about a certain draft being weak or not, who cares, somebody in that draft is going to become a star. Its the team's job to make sure it's them. Doesn't matter if it's a weak or not there are great players in every draft. There are the obvious ones and ones that you won't find out until 3-4 years down the line. Nobody thought Perry would score 50 goals in a season or be as dominant as he's been. He was going to be a good player but no one saw this coming from him.

Perry and Getzlaf are monsters. They combine size and skill like few duos in the league right now. Credit to the Leafs for allowing only 1 goal, because they were buzzing last night.

I thought we did a great job of letting only that like cause us problems.

They were the only line that was buzzing. If you can reduce a team like Anaheim to a one line team, you're in good shape

Once again the Kessel line and Bernier steal a victory for a team that would be horrid without them.

I love my Leafs and I'm excited for the win but we're an injury away from obliteration.:sarcasm:

I was disappointed to see Perry pass kessel in terms of goals of it was nice to see Kessel get a three point night and make up ground on Getz.

Well I don't know if we'd be horrid, but yeah when we were without Bozak and Bolland we just disappeared for a couple of months. Something to ponder for those who are getting overexcited at this point.

The Leafs this year are nothing if not unconventional. What a fascinating season it has been so far.

Yes! I was thinking this exact thing. Wasn't it nice to hold the puck in the Ducks end? I mean what gives us the best chance of avoiding being scored upon, keeping their shots to the outside? Or keeping the puck in their end.

What a great game it was. I mean we gave up a ton of shots but I wouldn't say we were outplayed. And that was a very good team on their home ice, very impressive win, one of the best games of the year for us.

so correct me if I'm wrong but

14 - 3 - 3 in last 20 games.

Pretty crazy, 31/40 points.

I believe you're right. :D Man I hope they keep it up.

GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gotta admit, our invasion of the Honda Center last night by the fans reminds me of how there always seems to be a huge amount of Leaf fans at the First Viagra Center in Buffalo whenever we play there. It was to that level.

It doesn't translate very well to the printed page. Think...Moe or Curly from the 3 Stooges, whenever they see something that terrifies them. That's who Joe is imitating when he does that.
