I'm glad he stays in the system. Some D take a long time to develop to the nhl level, he could still pan out as a useful piece at some point even though he's clearly been passed by others.
Yes, I do understand that. But why does he go abroad while almost every other AHL guy we have sit around twiddling their thumbs?Well, there's no AHL option, so.
And THIS is good depth, the kind we talk about with the prospects. You hope a handful of them make it to the point of these two. They're both capable of filling in at the NHL level at least short term. In the middle of the season when everyone drops like flies with injuries, or this year when one guy goes down with COVID and three more have to quarantine for a week or two due to exposure it's guys like this and J Ryan that we will have to lean on to get through the temporary issue. I like it and hope in the near future that Sellgren and/or Honka join that mix.And they gave him $100K to play in the AHL. Not a bad outcome for Roland, either way. Forsling and McKeown are both going to be pretty well-compensated for being in the minors.
That's actually a good question. I may have answered under completely false impression that he already was in Sweden*, because, done like this it indeed is a novelty.Yes, I do understand that. But why does he go abroad while almost every other AHL guy we have sit around twiddling their thumbs?
My guess is those guys just aren't good enough to be desireable or don't want to go overseas? There has to be desire by the player and loanee team for it to work.Yes, I do understand that. But why does he go abroad while almost every other AHL guy we have sit around twiddling their thumbs?
Money and insurances are one issue for the Euro teams. The economics of the sports franchises are devastated because of the coronavirus. My guess is those guys just aren't good enough to be desireable or don't want to go overseas? There has to be desire by the player and loanee team for it to work.
He reminds me of the defense version of Riley Nash when he was here, jack of all trades, master of none. He's "solid" at most aspects of the game, but nothing really stands out in particular. He'd be a serviceable #6 dman in my opinion, but he could also be a guy who's replaceable at the same time. He's not going to hurt you when he's out on the ice, but probably not going to elevate much either.I still don’t get how this guy didn’t turn out to be an NHL’er. He seems to have all the tools.

Sure. Done. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I often make mistakes, so I am happy to fix them.Just because it's one of my grammatical peeves, can you change the title to "re-signed"?
Worked as a sports editor for a while, and the difference between "re-signed" and "resigned" was easily one of the most common mistakes I had to correct. Kind of important to get that right, especially when writing about sports.
You missed a perfect opportunity to say:Sure. Done. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I often make mistakes, so I am happy to fix them.

“I’ve re-signed myself to the fact that I often make mistakes”
That would sound like a New Year's promise that you won't stop smoking.
Since he's going to play for my hometown team, can you (or someone else) provide a short scout report on him? Like strengths/weaknesses?I still don’t get how this guy didn’t turn out to be an NHL’er. He seems to have all the tools.

We'll be expecting the same from you in a few months.can you provide a short scout report on him?
Done. But I almost didn't just because...But if we are fixing the title, can it say "Skelleftea AIK (SHL)"?
"Swedish club" sounds very questionable and sexually connotated.
