McDonald: Even Hall of Famer Scotty Bowman wowed by Bruins'...

TAMPA – Legendary coach and Hall of Famer Scotty Bowman sat in his normal seat in the press box at Amalie Arena for Game 1 of the second-round series between the Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning and he was in awe of Boston’s top line.

Every time Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak were on the ice, Bowman would comment on the trio’s chemistry and ability to move and shoot the puck. He dropped a few “wow” and “did you see that?” comments as the Bruins skated to a 6-2 win over the Lightning. Boston’s top line combined for 11 points.
When asked, it took Bowman about five seconds to think of a former line that’s comparable to Marchand, Bergeron and Pastrnak.

“In Montreal with had Steve Shutt, Jacques Lemaire and Guy Lafleur,” Bowman quickly answered. “They were together for seven years. Bergeron reminds me of Lemaire.”

That’s amazing praise coming from a man who won nine Stanley Cup championships as a coach. Both Lemaire and Lafleur are Hall of Famers. Lemaire won eight Stanley Cups, while Lafleur hoisted it five times.
