Abby signed his ELC in April of 08 and it burned the first year. He only played 2 games.

the ELC slide thing is really just a first couple years post draft kinda thing and has an age requirement that Mazur is already too old for

just signing the contract at all would burn a year, pretty sure he doesn't even have to play a single game

same goes for Wallinder and Doucet who the Wings signed recently, both of them will burn a year on those since they are too old for slides

Most good college prospects sign early and as a gift for leaving they get a year burnt. The other option is they can go back and sign wherever they want. Worth burning a year to make sure that he doesnt go somewhere else

Not a big deal to burn that year. It's pretty unlikely he comes in and sets things on fire to the point of gettig a massive raise on the next deal, we'll probably be locking him up for a little under $1.5m for a few years on it. And if he does set the place on fire...good. We got a player that deserves his money.
