Awesome, let's do this again.........

It's Matthews, as I said 2 years ago, a year ago and last month.

What you'll notice about Eichel is he'll score a hat trick and be the goat on the ice against in OT, or score 2 goals and 1 assist but the Sabres lose 7-4.

I am probably alone in thinking Eichel but this in no way denigrates Matthews. Eichel is playing with absolute garbage (sorry Buffalo fans). I want to see him on a good team and what that would do for his status.

Comparable talents/ceilings (IMO), but Matthews has been the more impressive of the two thus far so I pick him. But Eichel could certainly close that gap and end up better, as these kids are still babies & both have some ridiculous potential.

I voted Matthews but toronto fans need to limit their level of cockiness in threads like this.

Eichel can absolutely no questions asked still surpass Matthews. Tons of talent, still getting better. 5 years from now it's anyone's guess who'll have turned into the better player, so it's far from pre-determined.

But I did vote Matthews

He could, but I just don't see it happening. Matthews has consistently outplayed him at every comparable level, and is a year younger. Eichel is still great, I just don't see him being better than Auston Matthews.

That's the point exactly. Development isn't linear. Even if what you say is true it doesn't guarantee anything.

Look at Kucherov. How many players did he leapfrog in the past 24 months who had "been better than him at every comparable level" prior.
