Peca was the wrong type of player for 4th line center. A 4th line center you want good shutdown 4th line center who is faceoff specialist and can kill penalities as well. A Jeff Halpern, Dominic Moore or Jim Dowd from the past. They triple help you, by increasing penalty kill units, win key faceoff in defensive zone and shut down opponents top offensive line.

If they can shutdown one of opponents top offensive lines it will leave ice time of one of our offensive lines against their back line. Gives you a big advantage.

I remember radio interviews with Scotty Bownman him saying how invaluable the Pocket Rocket was even though he was no longer scoring. When CKGM use to broadcast on 980 AM dial. He use to speak of Henri only losing 8 defensive zone draws all year on right side. How remarkable it was. He could shut down top offensive lines. I imagine Scotty knew what he was talking about. Onlly makes since, if you can win majority of defensive draws your goals against will decrease.

Hudon / Pleky / Peca would be a great 4th line if/when everybody is healthy. I liked what I saw from Peca/Hudon last night. Good game for them.

I don’t think he was brought in to be a 4th liner. I think he was brought in with the hope that he could possibly be another Desharnais (unexpected success story) when there was no guarantee that Kotkaniemi and Domi look this good as NHL centres.

Now he’s on the 4th line simply because he is an effective player with his speed and you can’t justify scratching him.

Faceoffs are a glorified 1v1 puck battle and if you are stuck with your 4th line against the opposite team's 1st line there is something wrong with the system. Peca is much much better than Halpern was for the Habs and Dominic Moore in his prime was more of a 3C. And yeah let's talk about an old dinosaur's opinion that doesn't matter in today's game.

TB fan in peace. How has Peca played for you guys? Thought he was a guy who could blow up when he found some ice time because he was never getting it in TB.

Had a great training camp, but has since fallen off. Fast, but not much else. Been a couple plays this year where him losing his guy (usually due to strength) has cost us a goal. I expect he'll probably be waived once Joel Armia comes back from injury, because it looks like a couple of our AHL call-ups have taken his spot.

Bad, bad useless signing.... I'd rather give the job to DLR than acquire Peca

I don't mind the signing but 1.3M/year 2 years 1 way I didn't get it.

I bet he would have been happy with a 700 000$ 1 year 1 way contract.

IMO, he should be playing ahead of Chaput. More speed and a better PK guy.
Pert has been very solid this year. The entire 4th line has been solid. Playing loose and doing what's asked of them.

Peca was a signing that was and continues to be illogical. No argument can be made that this was a good signing. Laval needs him.

It was a low risk gamble that didn't work out. No explanation from me as to why Bergevin decided to do it with the plethora of depth forwards already at his disposal but I'm assuming that was the logic as to why he wanted him... a gamble. I mean the cap space certainly isn't tight lol

He'd be worth a shot at some point at the wing on a more offensive line. He's not a 4th line player, he just can't be one. I doubt he'll get the opportunity though

Small, weak, not very skilled. The only thing he got is speed.
