Fairburn has been very good IMO so far covering the Sabres. I'm interested to see how his coverage goes once the season plays out, but it's nice to have the potential for good reporting on the team after spending so long in the desert in that regard.

It felt like Vogl was going through the motions by the end of his Athletic tenure. 20 years on the beat -- more than half of which were marred by uninspired hockey -- will do that to you, I'm sure. Fairburn is a welcome addition. He was fantastic in his Bills coverage.
