Ya'll got Dalton Smith and Jonathan Marchessault from Columbus apparently.
Happy for Tyrell. Not sure what CBJ's depth chart looks like, but it can't be more of a mountain than ours.
Audy-Marchessault isn’t the most talented winger on the ice, but what he lacks in size and pure skill he makes up for with his gritty style of play. He has always been a pass first player and is well on his way to becoming a playmaker in the NHL.
Smith is a tough guy, he is going to throw a statement hit or drop the gloves to stand up for a teammate. He improved his skating ability, but still does not turn heads with speed.
Assets: An excellent playmaker and stickhandler, he sees the ice very well and is quite patient with the puck. Is also a natural at putting points on the board. Is versatile up front.
Flaws: A lack of size and strength hinders his overall value as a top-six forward prospect at the National Hockey League level. Also needs to continue to work on his game without the puck.
Career Potential: Skilled playmaker with upside.
"It kind of came as a little bit of a shock to me, but it could be a better opportunity for me in the long run,'' he said. "This stuff happens. You're just going to have to get over it and move on to our next adventure.''
Tampa Bay assistant general manager Julien BriseBois said the organization has a pipeline of young blueliners coming up, so for now it made sense to get younger up front.
"To keep the pipeline full, it makes sense to trade for two younger forwards,'' BriseBois said.
BriseBois said the deal may also give Taormina and Tyrell a fresh chance for career advancement.
"We don't currently have NHL opportunities for them,'' BriseBois said. "Hopefully, by going to a new organization they will have a better opportunity to play in the NHL.''
BriseBois said both new players will arrive in town in time for Friday's morning skate. The Crunch visits Rochester on Friday night.
