There were quite a few goalies on the market the year we acquired Murray. I was surprised we picked him and gave him the contract that we did. There were lots of threads on the goaltender options on multiple team's boards. Oh well.We need Murray to step up and be an asset for us. Because otherwise his contract is immovable.
Not a super unpalatable buyout.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to pay a guy 15M over the next two seasons to be a backup.
Meh, you can buy him out in summer 22. Not the worst thing in the world to have him backing up next season and giving Gus some cushion
Some people can't wait to "get rid" of Murray but if it happens, the team will right away have to "overpay" another goalie on the UFA market or make a trade (hopefully not give up more assets)
The problem is this team is not even remotely close as solid enough defensively to leave Gustavsson (and/or Sogaard) with all the pressure. I mean, he was pretty solid on monday but still gave up 6 goals FCS... Do people realize that? I have been a goalie for decades, I know how it feels. No matter how hard you stand on your head but you get so dominated that you still get wrecked in the end, not a really fun feeling.
It could be a similar situation to Bobby Ryan buy out ($1,833,333 x 4 years) plus Evgeni Dadonov ($5,000,000 AAV), and in the end it wasn't even an upgrade (Bobby actually had a better scoring pace on the 2nd worst offense in the NHL. Ottawa was 19th)
So for the first 2 years, Bobby Ryan would have been 7.25 and Evgeni Dadonov 6.8
Murray's buyout cost seems to be 2.5 per x several years. It's a cost you'll have to add to the player replacing him. None of Sogaard, Mandolese or Merilainen will be NHL ready, not even close

INVEST on f***ing defense instead. People are always proposing to make moves for goalies and forwards when the AINEC team weakness has been DEFENSE for years.
he's here, we're not close to competing yet. just let it ride and at worst you have an expensive AF backup with experience.
I am not for trading Murray or trying to buy him out. It would be a ridiculous idea. He's got a few more years left on his contract. We need to ride it out. If we make the playoffs and he is acting as backup, he could go on another one of those runs.
Yeah, not looking good for Murray after DJ’s comments in post game presser.
lol"I just think we’ve got to get someone to take the net and start to win us some games when we give that effort."
Sounds like he's calling out the goaltending in general, not Murray specifically.
lol
Gus is 3-4-1
Murray is 0-5-0
We have 4 wins
