"He made such a difference last year," Cassidy said. "He was just such a settling influence. He's been through the rigors of the American League as well as the National League and he knows what it takes."

Cassidy knew the dressing room was in good hands. Or good voice.

"There were times I said, 'I'm not coming in (to the room) but this is what we need to do,' and it would be taken care of," Cassidy said. "You know you can rely on that voice in the room to reinforce the message the coaches are trying to get across."
