Habs can easily offer $8M for 7 years and not blink a eye in terms of cap issues in the future. We can also offer Duchene a contract where most of the money is paid in July each season. I'd go as high as $8.5M but that's it. $9M or more becomes too much.

If Duchene is interesting in the Habs (head he cheered for the Habs growing up) and he is willing to do a deal that works for the Habs and Duchene, it's a good fit.

Domi / Duchene / Shaw
Tatar / Danault / Gallagher
Drouin / Kotkaniemi / Armia
Lehkonen / Poehling / Byron

Suzuki, Ylonen, Ikonen, Evans, Olofsson, McShane

Or the Habs go after Skinner.
Skinner / Domi / Shaw
Tatar / Danault / Gallagher
Drouin / Kotkaniemi / Armia
Lehkonen / Poehling / Byron

Suzuki, Ylonen, Ikonen, Evans, Olofsson, McShane

Domi needs to get on the phone with his fellow Ontario boys (Duchene or Skinner) and convince one of them to come to Montreal to play with him.

Skinner makes WAAAAY more sense IMO, we don't need duchene just to move KK to the wing, I don't want to see that

Thanks!

So, if San Jose makes a Stanley Cup appearance, and Duchene resigns in Columbus, Ottawa would get two 1st round picks. Even if the Sharks play in the Cup final, a 2nd isn't bad either.

Guess you guys are hoping for a CBJ vs. Sharks final then LOL.

I think the San Jose pick is contingent on Karlsson re-signing though. If they make the Cup final but he chooses not to re-sign, they get nothing.

Imo he goes to NYI or stays in CBJ. MTL isn't good enough, NSH doesn't have the cap without some crazy big moves and people who think Ott are delusional. Also while there is a fit I don't think the Avs would be as interested as they would in other options.

I can’t say I’ve heard a single rumor of the flyers being interested, but from Fletchers presser he certainly seems to want a 2C. Patrick could easily be that guy so maybe they look to a 2C/3C guy instead of a better player like Duchene. But they are going to be in on centers and dmen.

I think Skinner makes more sense for sure... if he is interested in signing with us and playing with a fellow Ontario boy (Domi). Get on a the phone Domi and make the call!

If Skinner says not, then I would see if Duchene is interested in a fair deal. Signing Duchene is insurance at center while we wait for Kotkaniemi and Poehling to earn their center spots. If/When they both become top 9 centers. Move Duchene to wing.

I'm of the opinion, Chicago will be the team that he signs with.

He has size, speed , skill and he would either play with toews or center a line of Kane, that's why I believe he will sign their.

Mark Savard is the one who floated that crazy rumor,nobody in Ottawa believes he is coming back

5’11 195 is pretty big, anyway size doesn’t mean anything at all. It’s how you use your body and how strong you are.

Agree that size on its own is overrated. Don't agree on the "pretty big" part. Pretty average size.

Lets agree to disagree, being 195lbs at 5’11 if you have a decent body fat ( lets get real hockey players aren’t bodybuilders, most probably sit around 14%) it’s quite heavy for quality mass.

The average height of an NHL player is just over 6 ft 1 in (1.85 m) tall

Was just passing time and the subject is not that important, so I'll move on.

Ottawa has 2020 1st unprotected and 2019 2nd from San Jose ( the second is from Florida for Hoffman).

If San Jose resigns him Ottawa gets a 2nd. If they also make the finals this becomes a future 1st.
There was another clause on if San Jose traded him to the east...unsure if that applies after season is over.

Teams with a big chunk of money to spend who like spending it. Montreal and Detroit are two teams to watch out for. In that division, with their eye on competing, they’ll be involved if he makes it to July 1. Not saying it’s smart on either’s behalf but when you have $20 million to spend and you’re always a high payroll, they sometimes can’t help themselves.

I dont know if this is necessarily true (not that you said it is)

I looked at the salaries of all teams top 2 C and you will find that most of the teams expected to express interest, or who make sense as a landing spot, have very little $ spent at C

TOR - 22.63m (Matthews + Tavares)
EDM - 21m (McDavid + Draisaitl) or 18.5 (McDavid + RNH)
PIT - 18.25m (Malkin + Crosby)
LAK - 15.27m (Kopitar + Carter)
WAS - 14.5m (Kuznetsov + Backstrom)
BOS - 14.125m (Krejci + Bergeron)
ANA - 14.075m (Getzlaf + Henrique)
* NAS - 14.0m (Johansen + Turris)
PHI - 12.58m (Giroux + Couturier)
STL - 12.5m (O’Reilly + Bozak)
*DAL - 12.05m (Seguin + Faksa)
CGY - 11.725m (Monahan + Backlund)
SJS - 11.625m (Couture + Hertl (Pavelski + Thornton = UFA))
WIN - 11.41m (Scheifele + Little)
* ARZ - 11.4m (Stepan + Galchenyuk)
VGK - 10.35m (Stastny + Eakin (Karlsson = RFA))
DET - 11.35m (Larkin + Nielsen)
CHI - 11.35m (Toews + Strome)
COL - 11.05m (Mackinnon + Soderberg)
* BUF - 10.65m (Eichel + Rodriquez)
FLA - 10.65m (Barkov + Trocheck)
TB - 9.28m (Stamkos + Cirelli)
* MIN - 9.0m (Koivu + Staal)
* VAN - 8.5m (Horvat + Beagle)
CAR - 6.675m (Staal + Walmark (Aho = RFA))
* NJD - 6.675m (Zajac + Hischier)
*CLB - 6.4m (Foligno + Dubois (Duchene = UFA))
*MTL - 6.23m (Domi + Danault)
* NYR - 6.23m (Zibanejad + Howden)
*OTT - 6.03m (Pageau + Tierney (White = RFA))
* NYI - 4.2m (Cizikas + Barzal (Filppula + Nelson = UFA))

The exceptions are:

Nashville, who would only make sense if Turris disappears
Dallas, who have a need for a 2nd line anchor + a healthy amount of capspace due to the impending departure of Spezza
Arizona, who have two mediocre centermen, ample cap space, and are a young, fast team who would be looking for a true #1
&, to a much lesser extent, Buffalo, who has almost all of their money at C tied up in Eichel and no real tenable option at 2c

I do think if you look at it, most of the teams who are heavy players on Duchene will either have the ability to offer him the #1 C position, or they will make him the star of his own line which is what he was in Ottawa and is, to some extent, what he is in Columbus although he at least has Atkinson now. Persoanlly, I think Duchene is best suited to being on a line where he is asked to create most of the chances because thats what he excels at. All he needs is guys who can do some of the dirty work, engage on the cycle with him, and get to the net and finish.

I think it takes at least 8.5m but I do think the Habs are one of the teams who a) will make a big push and b) who he will strongly consider

Sounds like he'd make a great winger for horvat which the Canucks are looking for, nobody's really mentioned he also plays wing

I think he will wait for Bob and Panarin to make their decision (if that has not already happened) and then consider all of his options..

Could see him signing in Columbus (especially if one of Panarin/Bob stays) but also could very easily see him not wanting to gamble on Columbus being able to compensate for the losses of Panarin/Bob and go to a team like Nashville, Pittsburgh (if they do a major shakeup) or another team he believes can contend for a cup with him...
