Letang is the Penguins' nominee, he had neck surgery and had similar issues that caused Peyton Manning to retire. He has played in 73 of 76 games for the Penguins this year, he's approaching his first healthy season since 2010-2011.

Not Karlsson, eh?

That's surprising.

Isn't this award usually given to whoever deals with the most off-ice trauma?
I thought its about getting through tough injuries. However I would like to see teams give a reasoning for their nominations.

Pietrangelo for St. Louis, his infant son died this season. Same as Karlsson. But Boyle should at least be nominated too.

Really with pietrangelo? What is in the water this year for hockey players and there families. 3 players lots kids to death in 1 season. Just unthinkable.

Cancer versus death of child. Both bad yes. But i would rather have cancer over ever losing a child.
It isn't exactly a contest of who's suffered the most. Boyle was diagnosed with cancer and battled through it, spread awareness and is playing a great season. Karlsson very recently had an absolutely horrible thing happen to him and will probably be in a very dark place for a long time. I don't mean that to sound negative at all towards Karlsson. No trophy is just going to better the situation.

Boyle is a great feel good story. Karlsson is a recent unbearably tragic story.

Sorry if I sound like a jerk, just my two cents
