That seems bad for both teams...

Pesce being hurt turns this into an instant downgrade this year for Toronto while pushing for the playoffs and Carolina is giving up too much

Value sucks for Carolina. They do not need Marner. Carolina needs 1 dman plus a goalie. They focus on those they will be serious contenders for the cup.

Let’s not overblow a loss to this extent. Leafs are not trading Marner, Nylander or Matthews. Let the cap rise back up and correct the mistake for their next contracts.

Is it wrong to think this makes Carolina a worse team? A highly skilled forward group is fun, but the defense outside of the Slavin - Hamilton pairing being built around Gardiner is not ideal. Toronto is an example of that.

Zero reason to trade Marner. Not only is extremely talented but he’s one of the few guys on that team that play with heart.

Nylander should absolutely be traded for a D man. Or if there’s a great D prospect in the draft the leafs like maybe trade him for that pick

I think carolina says no to this in a heartbeat, yes marner is good but that contract does take away from his value, to ask for pesce plus to first is absurd
