With his 344th assist tonight, Andrei Markov is 2 assists away from Peter Mahovlich and 15th of all-time in assists for the Habs.

Even more impressively, Markov is now the 4th defenseman in franchise history for passes, having passed Serge Savard this year. In front of him: Robinson (686), Lapointe (406) and Harvey (371).

If he stays with us next year and has his usual year, he will no doubt pass Harvey and if he has ANOTHER of his usual 40-assist seasons, he will also pass Lapointe.

Which would make him within 15 of passing...Maurice Richard for 9th of all time.

Modern record for the Habs is Koivu with 450. Doable, but difficult. 3 more good years.

If he wouldn't have missed 3 of his prime years he'd be right up there. But i don't think he will be back next year. As no doubt some team will offer him a Streit type contract, he is best UFA d-man. Which the Habs won't touch.

It's a shame he started to get all the injury trouble when he should've been at his most dominant. Great player.

Why the hell would the Habs not touch Markov?

4th in dman points also, 6 points from Harvey.

On unrelated note, Subban is already 17th in points, 16th in assists and 19th in goals despite being 44th in game played.

As this point, I think re-signing Markov is a no-brainer. Anything under 6M per for 3 years is alright by me.

Edit : and to be on topic, if he stays for 3 more years he should retire as the second most prolific defenseman in Habs history.

Yeah a candidate but Koivu isn't...lol. What has Markov done more than Koivu?

Be a legit top 10, possibly top 5 player in the league at his position for several years. Saku's a nice story, but let's be reality, he was never really a legit 1C let alone one of the better ones.

If Markov has another 3-4 good years and the Habs miraculously win a cup, who knows.
