Grats, Gabby! My god if he would have figured out a way to fix the chronic groin thing earlier...Very exciting player to watch. Says something that he could be butts out of seats exciting every night on a Jacque Lemaire team with a budget roster.

That's more impressive than his goal total, considering how difficult it was for him to play a full season. He was a frustrating player to have as the best player on your team, considering you were never sure he would actually be in the lineup, but he was and is a beauty. Congrats Marian!

I feel like peak Gabby is going to go down as a really underrated star...shame he missed so many games with injuries over the years.

- 1st ever pick of the Minnesota Wild, debuted with 18 goals and 36 points on a crappy expansion team as an 18 year-old.
- His 2nd and 3rd seasons in the league he scored 30 goals each.
- In 05-06 he had 38 goals in 65 games (48 goal pace).
- In 06-07, he had 30 goals and 57 points in 48 games (51 goal, 97 point pace).
- In 07-08, he was relatively healthy and scored 42 goals and 83 points in 77 games.
- In 08-09 he only played 17 games but had 23 points.
- In 09-10 he had 42 goals and 86 points in 76 games.
- After a relatively off year in 10-11, he came back and had 41 goals and 76 points in 11-12.

All told, in his 5 peak seasons from 2005 to 2010, he had 165 goals and 315 points in 283 games which if averaged to a full 82 game season is an average of 48 goals and 91 points. His head coach in all but the last of those seasons was defensive mastermind and trap-happy Jacques Lemaire and the best team offense from any of those years was 17th out of 30th in the league in goals, including the 09-10 season with New York.

He was a true star regardless but really, in different circumstances and with better luck - he could have been a HoF calibur winger with ridiculous goal scoring numbers. Regardless, you can't complain too much about a 1,000 game, 400+ goal NHL career so congrats to Gabby!

Great player who was a pleasure to watch back in the day. A lot of those Wild teams didn't have much in the way of exciting players but Gaborik certainly was and you always knew when he was on the ice. Have to say that like most others I'm pretty surprised and impressed he made it to 1000 games.

i feel really bad now. there are websites out there that track your most frequent linemates in a given year? like watching KG on the Wolves. sadface. What could have been.

What could have been indeed, although KG on the Wolves had a very solid supporting cast for several years. Gaborik on the Wild had two years of a supporting cast (Demitra RIP, Koivu, Butch and Rolston), the rest were Gaborik and Brunette as the offense, the rest of the team as the defense. That said, the 2003 team was pretty special and had just the right amount of "buy in" and talent. Only Anaheim had more of both.

Won't lie, I knew I'd miss Gabby when he left, and I certainly miss him now. Minneapolis and St. Paul are beautiful as a mid-sized metropolis area (and "metropolis" is probably being polite), but it's got nothing on NYC or LA when it comes to size and variety, which is something he always claimed to want. I don't blame him at all, I just hope he remembers his time here fondly.

I always try to leave the Mary-Ann's satisfied.

Pretty cool milestone, scored a goal too. 1000 Games, 401 goals, 400 assists, 801 points, and a +100 for the career.

Without that goal the numbers would have been perfect :sarcasm:

Awesome for him though, especially with all the injuries - congrats :handclap:

He actually had a goal and an assist tonight, so his stat line is 1000 games played, 401 goals, 401 assists, and 802 points in 17 seasons. If I’m not mistaken, he’s missed 300 games in his career.

Great post. Guy was a freaking terror. For a few yrs there he was as scary as any player in the league. Under different circumstances and better luck, he'd be considered one of the best fwds of the last 15 yrs.
