Considering that Malkin won a third cup leading the playoffs in points, while being +9 (after being third again in ppg during the season) less than what 7 months after that list was released, would it have been done that summer instead maybe we would have saved a bit of trouble.

He's going to retire with 500+ goals and 1300+ points, I'd say that's a pretty incredible career, especially given his inability to stay healthy for long stretches.

Internationally and while in Russia Malkin has done quite a bit better than Ovechkin. The narrow rink has helped Ovi quite a bit.

Even in the land of the narrow rinks, Malkin has outscored Ovechkin most of the time, notwithstanding injuries, which I guess is the big difference.
