They should have this every year, alot of guys out there that have the drive and some talent to be a solid NHL player or at least have a shot at trying to make the roster. These guys would happily take a contract of 100,000 or even 50,000 and play their heart out.

No. When the NHL starts, teams have full rights on the player they picked. It's just logic.

Part of the requirement to be on the show in the first place is to not be a part of an nhl system right now. Old players and old prospects can apply so long as no club in the NHL own their rights. You can play for St.John Maple Leafs without being property of the parent NHL club. Those six player's rights are now owned by those Canadian NHL teams.
