Appleyard is comparing apples and oranges - all of 15-16 v 16-17, whereas I was comparing the first 40 games v his last 56 games:
PP
15-16 - first 40 games 6-12 18 - .45 ppg
15-17 - last 56 games 3-10 13 - .23 ppg

Now I don't have the 60 minute splits for 2015-16, but he really fell off after those 40 games so the average for the season may have been down due to that dropoff after his hot start.

I would agree with this assessment. He is growing as a defenseman. Perhaps some of the increase in defensive play has taken a bit off of his offensive flair. Then again, it could be that there is still some left over healing from his off season surgery.
In my mind I have been comparing Ghost's development with that of the B's Tory Krug. Like Ghost when he first came into the league Krug was wheels on fire. Then the League caught up to him and he slowed down his offensive play to be more defensively responsible. Its the way life in the NHL is. The neat thing about fast players that can shoot like Ghost and Krug, is that that extra gear is still there and they can turn it on when necessary.

Yup. Another really good example is Drew Doughty. It's always nice when players get what they need to do to be a winning player, not just a scoring player. I think scratching him (only here and there) throughout the year will also help with this. When you have a day off every now and then to just watch the game from above, Live, you can pick up some nice perspective that will only make you wiser.

Yea because why compare season to season when you compare arbitrary chunks of his career just to try and prove whatever dumb argument you're making in the first place?
