Engvall should be making his debut for the Marlies this weekend, and is a really intriguing prospect. He is a big guy at 6'4 and close to 200 lbs, and has shown good growth as a player since being drafted. His greatest asset is his skating, which is incredible for a guy his size, and his shot. He recovered more quickly than expected from a broken clavicle this season, and produced at a higher rate upon his return for HV71 in the SHL. Those who followed his teammate Erik Brannstrom this season will likely be familiar with him.

It would amazing if he panned out being a 7th rd pick. I am really looking forward to getting a look on him on NA ice.

There is a good article about Engvall and Jesper Lindgren who also just joined the Marlies on the Athletic today for those interested in learning a little more about him.

Another solid game for him so far after 2 periods.

Scored his 1st goal for the Marlies today, and is showing some good chemistry with Aaltonen and Bracco.

Engvall with another goal tonight. 2g 1a in first 3gp in the AHL. With his skating for a guy his size and his solid play at both ends, he could be a late round gem for the Leafs.

Engvall is easily one of the better skating 6'4 guys I've seen in the Maple Leafs organization in many years.

He's been very good in his 3 AHL games.

He'll get an ELC shortly.

Good prospect.
I remember watching him at the 2015 skills development camp and in the skating drills he was by far the best skater on the ice. Barb Underhill was using his stride as the example for others to follow. He has come a long way since then in the other facets of his game, and looks to have developed into a legit prospect. The 7th round Thommie Bergman special. Great pick that late in the draft.

Not really. He's still a lanky kid who gets out-muscled. Stylistically he's reminiscent of a younger JVR. Big guy who has wheels and finish, but doesn't use his frame to his advantage.

I like that he is here now and can learn the NA game, he'll understand it's a bit more physical with more board work and less open ice. I don't mind using an ELC on him, at 21 years old he just needs a big summer and maybe a year of AHL seasoning but he could be a nice NHL depth guy.

Didn't see the game yesterday (away game so not on LNN), but noticed he got an assist and now has 2g 2a for 4pts in his first 4 AHL games.

Another goal for Engvall today. He is up to 3g 2a for 5pts in his first 6 games in the AHL. Not bad considering he is adjusting to NA ice as well. He is looking more and more like he could be offered an ELC.

What a surprise he's been. 6 points in 7 games now, with 3 goals. His size+skating combo is something you don't see everyday, very unique player.

Could be another 7th round gem if he continues at this pace. 0.7PPG in the SHL this season followed up by a PPG start to his AHL career at only 21 years old. Marlies will depend on him with Johnsson and Kapanen graduating for good.

Deserves an ELC as well. Probably not a top 6 player long term, but could easily be a decent middle six winger if he pans out.

He seems pretty solid.

I think as he matures and develops his body and game, you may see a top 6 player. Maybe never a top line player, but that nice supporting player on a 2-3rd line.

Another primary assist on the GWG in double OT tonight against the Crunch. Up to 5 points in 7 playoff games, & 13 points in 15 total AHL games as a rookie.

Looks like a lankier version of Chris Kreider with some Stalberg to him; big, straight line speedster that likes to drive the net from the outside. Just continues to produce.

Johnsson and Engvall from the 7th round.. ahahahaha.. love it

Expecting 1 AHL winger to be promoted like Grundstrom and another to be forcing himself onto the team with a PPG year in the AHL, too much good wingers with not enough spots

Leafs historically aren't a great drafting team, but they have done relatively well out of Sweden.

Stralman, Gunnarsson, Stalberg, and Johnsson were other late round draft picks, plus Grundstrom is looking like a very solid late 2nd rounder, and Nylander/Liljegren as 1st rounders.

Engvall hopefully can become the next pleasant surprise. Leafs look like they're batting close to 0.500 when drafting Swedish players with later picks over the last ~10-15 years, so solid track record.

Another great late round pick. Maybe gets a shot next year with Dubas in charge?

5 points (3 goals) to start the year through 6 games with the Marlies after a terrific pre-season with the Leafs where he was one of the better forwards.

He has NHL player written all over him. Size (6'5"), skating and finishing ability to go with a good motor on the forecheck. Big pick up in the 7th round, he just keeps developing.
