Homecoming for our ex-leader who left for a contending team.
Assuming LV wants to go into a retool/rebuild.

LV trades:
- Mark Stone (9.5M x 5 years remaining, 29 years old)

Ottawa trade:
- Ridley Greig (key piece; promising D+3 late 1st-rd pick in 2020, 19 years old; currently projects as a middle 6 winger with offensive upside but moreso intangibles/aggressive pesty play)
- Colin White (underperfoming 4.75M x 3 years remaining, 25 years old, D+8 mid 1st rd pick)
- 2023 1st round pick (top 10 protected)

Comparing to LV haul for Eichel (10M x 5 years; 25 years old):
Peyton Krebs (key piece; promising D+3 mid 1st rd pick; projected top line talent who dropped in draft due to big injury)
Alex Tuch (underperfoming 4.75M x 5 years remaining, 25 years old, D+8 mid 1st rd pick a la Colin White mold minus injuries)
2022 1st-round pick (top 10 protected)
2023 2nd-round pick

Eichel > Stone
Krebs > Greig
Tuch > White balanced by White shorter contract.
LV 1st < Ott 1st
LV 2nd < 0

The only comment I have is the bolded is hilarious, there's no contract on earth that could balance those two players

We have moved on from Stone and wish him future success with the Golden Knights.

We will not be pulling a Duchene trade where we send a blue chip prospect, protected first round pick, and a player we can easily just buy out for him.

Stone will be on the wrong side of thirty when a lot of our kids are going to be getting their first contract, which will cause huge cap implications even if his play doesn’t decline. That money needs to be saved for Stützle, Sanderson, Greig, Pinto, potentially one of our young goalies, and potentially more.

Although we do need a top six forward, someone that fits the age of our current core that isn’t in a contract that has a high AAV that carries on into their 30s would be something much more palatable.

There’s so much wrong here I just don’t know where to start.

So I’ll just say both teams say no for different reasons. Particularly bad move for OTT though, who are putting something special together. They’re not going to gut their plan by trading their second best prospect and what should be a pick in the range of 8-13th overall in a really, really strong draft.

Bad trade for both teams.

As much as I loved watching Stone on the Sens, you can't go home again. We've got to move on and focus on developing our new core.

Vegas isn't trading their captain, even with their cap issues.

Still even though Stone is my favorite Senator all-time, I don't want them trading quality assets for him to take on the latter years of that massive contract.

Stone may not age that well. He can't exactly afford to lose a step like a lot of players do when they reach their mid 30s.
