I can barely remember this guy playing a string of games the past few years. So irrelevant now.

How bad is the injury? Horton-esque career ending or will we see him again?
Complications from hernia surgery earlier this year.

Bad move

Put him on the roster

He can score
No, it would be a bad move to play a player who didn't pass his physical.

And it isn't 2013 anymore. He isn't an effective player anymore, even when he's healthy... which he hasn't been since his days in Philly.

In other news, salt is salty.

Lupul's been dead weight for years, the fact that he's now "officially" unfit to play shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

That should help the cap nicely

Not if there's a chance of him returning during the season. If he's not LTIRetiring then his cap space needs to be left open. Unfit to start the season doesn't necessarily mean unfit to return later.

2022 Cup to Calgary
So let's see:

Pronger - LTIR
Smid - Will Not play in 2016/17
Lupul - Unfit to start season

That trade was a lose-lose for every player involved

I'd prefer if he were healthy so we could send him to the AHL. Now we have his cap hit on the cap. His replacement's cap hit on the cap and in the event we are forced to use LTIR that doesn't help when ELC bonuses are hit. I would have preferred having the extra 925k from sending him down. Oh well.
