Not if there's a chance of him returning during the season. If he's not LTIRetiring then his cap space needs to be left open. Unfit to start the season doesn't necessarily mean unfit to return later.

He's not going on LTIR. The Leafs will still have him on the cap, just don't want him on team. There is no cap circumvention going on. Just bad hockey player disappearing.

I'd prefer if he were healthy so we could send him to the AHL. Now we have his cap hit on the cap. His replacement's cap hit on the cap and in the event we are forced to use LTIR that doesn't help when ELC bonuses are hit. I would have preferred having the extra 925k from sending him down. Oh well.
