Montreal takes on lots of cap space immediately but can afford it with no big signature coming up.

Heck Luongo could even play another year or two as a back up in his hometown before a buyout takes place.

Probably conditional on Florida being able to draft one of Byram or Harley to replace Matheson though.

How does this help Florida? Luongo is likely to retire and the Canucks get a $4M recapture penalty for 3 seasons. Why would would the Panthers make this deal? I don't see the point

Why? Habs already have the best goalie in the world. Only thing in this trade that’s worth it is the Alzner cap dump. I wouldn’t give up a young goalie like Lindgren who has decent potential for Luongo who only has a couple years left at best.
