Lucic is on pace for 11 pts this season

On pace to barely crack double digits, it would be a career low for him. When does he usually pick up his performance? Do you see him getting better as the season goes on?

Right now he looks to be the most expensive player in the league for such low production. Are there any other 3rd liners in the league who are paid more than this guy? You honestly can't tell me that a minor call up making league minimum on a 2 way deal, isn't capable putting up more than 3 points on the Flames 3rd line after 21 games this season. Hathaway (who they got rid of) would have 3pts on the Flames 3rd line and he's much cheaper than Lucic, plus he is more physical.

Would his point production be up if he was on the Flames top line playing with Monahan and Gaudreau? Possibly but it's not like he's playing with scrubs on the 3rd line. IMO he should be on the 4th line.

What a horrible trade. And James Neal is bad too, so Edmonton isn't off the hook, but man Lucic is completely awful.

James Neal can still contribute, and will finish the year with 20 + goals. If he does fall off, he is far easier to buyout than Lucic.

Edmonton is most definitely off the hook when it comes to Lucic and Holland deserves a statue.

Not sure why the Flames thought Lucic could add anything positive to their lineup. He's basically an enforcer now who can't do anything but hit and punch people.

Neal can score goals on the powerplay. He's bad everywhere else but at least he does something somewhere.

I think he really deserves a statue, if also Hall comes back (via trade or as UFA) and Larsson stays on the team. :D

How many Oilers fans could believe 1 years ago, that this kind of changes could be possible?

Another legend from the 2016 offseason free agency class.

every member of that group belongs in the HOF.

That's very interesting off-season. Many "old NHL" players like Lucic were signed for grinding hockey. On july 1st, 2016. Many are blaming this group of UFAs as being bad, but nobody isn't suggesting any reasons for the collective fall.

I have a reason.

World Cup happened in September 2016. That North American kid team shoved the future. Speed, speed, more speed. It opened everybody's eyes. But you can't turn your roster around in one season, or in many seasons.

Game has been getting faster since that World Cup, because everybody is putting faster and not-so-physical players in. Vegas Golden Knights was build totally for this ideology, with no old and slow career-contract anchors in the team, like every other had. We saw the results. huge surprise, almost a Cup win.

And these 2016 off-season signings were planned for different kind of hockey, for the old NHL. Just few months before the World cup happened. Now these signings are falling out of the race one-by-one.

Isn't there something in the deal where if one of Lucic or Neal gets a set amount of points more than the other player, something happens? Does anyone recall this?

"Only if Neal scores at least 21 goals AND lights the lamp 10+ more times than Lucic will the Oilers have to cede a third round pick in 2020."
