The Original Six Game.

Imagine the NHL went back to the O6 era cities. A contraction draft GM game. Each GM drafts one of the O6 era franchises and - in a snake format - thereafter four other teams, making for 6 GMs each with 5 NHL line-ups (players having to go to O6 cities). Then trading opens and eventually a 23-man limit is required, plus call-ups to total a maximum 50 contracts. All this consistent with present NHL rules (including salary cap!).

The undrafted 31st team could either be discarded as injured/killed off in a plane crash, or else be the present Stanley Cup champion squad that sits out this off season competition (Washington Capitals).

We have 8.... everyone drafts three teams, each from a different division and the remaining seven undrafted lineups go into a three-round player draft.
