I've lurked for years & this post made me register. Is section 124 the south section? I had two little girls in the row behind me screeching ERIC STAAL, JEFF SKINNER, etc; for half the game & never heard the parents say anything other than "Semin's not playing tonight" when they started screaming his name. I'm glad the atmosphere is family friendly & we can take our kids (my 14 year old was with me), but please parents be aware of the people around you.

Oh, & what's up everybody

In all likelihood, Terry-Nash-Boychuk is not going to keep this up. If they can overmatch other 4th lines with speed and skill and score a goal every third game or so that would be somewhat realistic and pretty huge.

Basically there's no way Eric, Skinner, Semin, Tlusty, Lindholm, and Rask keep getting as poor results as they have been. Expecting improvement there is extremely reasonable. Gerbe is the only guy not seeing luck influence his stuff. Ideally, we put him with McClement and Dwyer to give them an offensive/possession boost and scratch Malone while the six previously mentioned underperformers fill out the top six.

This. That 4th would be a solid traditional 3rd, so you play those bottom 6 based on whatever you need at the time.

Yep, we are six points out of a playoff spot.

Columbus and the NYR are currently ravaged by injuries. Ryan McDonagh aka Superman is out for probably 4 weeks. Washington is ******** themselves. The Flyers are an awful possession team and are relying on great goaltending from Ray ****ing Emery. The Devils are riding Cory Schneider into the ground. The Isles are lost right now and their powerplay won't keep scoring every time it's on the ice.

We have to get hot here and take advantage of all this. Columbus/Columbus/Washington is a very winnable stretch of games at the moment.

Way to cover for your boy, you god **** hipster. (own filter added as it was supposed to be a joke, surprised G D gets through)

This is the most bipolar message board I have ever seen. I didn't think it kicked in this early into a season, I'm impressed.

The board is just as bipolar as the team. Wonder if there's a correlation there?

Saturday's game is the first Hurricanes game I have attended that I didn't want to choke at least 5 people around me. A welcomed byproduct of 10k attendance.

Dear god are you guys really getting excited about this team?

Dont do it!

Seriously though. There is nothing to be excited about.

Say they go on a 4-game winning streak. What happens at the end of a wining streak? We lose. What does that loss do? Puts us back below "hockey .500". What do teams who can't even scrape together a winning record in regulation do? Miss the playoffs.

We've done the math on this, even a 9th place finish would take a level of performance that is WAY over this team's head. It's not gonna happen, not even if we occasionally beat slumping western teams on our home ice.

We also assumed that Terry, Boychuck, and Rask would not play the way that they have been playing. And then there's Nash who is playing extremely well. If you told me that Terry was on pace for 58 points this off season I would have laughed at you. If we maintain 5 games below.500 upon Staals arrival we will make the playoffs.

Well, the funny thing about math is that it changes as the numbers change -- and numbers change as play changes.

We may be seeing some of our young talent improve ahead of expectations. We may be seeing a team buying in. These are the possibilities that a skilled coach brings to the table. If that's real, then it's significant, and it changes what we thought we knew about this team.

I'm willing to say that we don't know enough yet. Let's see how November plays out. If this team goes 9-4 in November, then maybe there's a shot. Is this team good enough to go 9-4 in November? They're 2-0 so far and looked good doing it.

Bottom line: we have no idea who this team is yet.

This is pretty much how I feel. The team fell flat on their faces out of the gate, they got up and dusted themselves off this weekend, and now that almost everyone is healthy and had a few weeks to get used to the system, we might start to see what they can do under it.

I still think there's no predicting it just yet... the talk of both playoffs and draft position is premature. Like, more premature than this guy.

Of course, I'm expecting another 9th place finish just so I won't be disappointed. But that's because I'm jaded after so many years of mediocrity.

I want to check out the thread in the alternate parallel universe that had a couple of those lucky bounces in the Arizona game end up in the back of the net.

Another 9th place finish? You have higher expectations than I do as they haven't even been that good.
