Every year we rank out prospects after the draft and with a couple weeks to go before we add some new and exciting talent to the pool, I think we should reflect at the rankings we gave our prospects last year and see how far they've fallen, how far they've risen, who we were right about and who we were wrong about.

Here is last year's list:
1. Alex Galchenyuk, C (Sarnia Sting, OHL) - 100% of votes.

38. Michael Cichy, C (Awaiting Transfer, NCAA) - 47.52% of the votes.

I think we were all right with Galchenyuk as #1.
We definitely had Gallagher rated too low, he should have been behind Galchenyuk.
Beaulieu a little high but I think warranted it with his play this year.
Tinordi and Collberg are around their right location.
Leblanc definitely was rated highly but fell off.
Ellis, Pribyl, Palushaj, Thrower, and Quailer are all ones we had rated highly that should have been lower.
Hudon, Dietz, Pateryn and Nygren are ones, to me, that we rated too low.

Pateryn higher.
Nygren much higher.
Quailer lower.
Hudon higher.
Dumont possibly higher.
Leblanc lower.
Thrower probably lower but I still think his upside is the same.
Ellis over Kristo never made sense. Were people really that upset that Kristo went for a final year of College when we didn't even have a GM in place?

 yes they were pissed at Kristo for that. Kristo was definitely rated too low.

Without putting toooo much thought into it, I like something like this. I know i'm underrating Bennett but, admittedly, he is the prospect I've seen the least of, so I don't want to rank him ahead of guys I already know and like. :)

Without getting too deep into it either, swap Dietz with Thrower, and I could probably shake on it. I'd be closer to swapping Bournival and Nygren as well, believe it or not.

I could definitely swap Bournival and Nygren if we're talking about potential ceilings. I only put him there because I think he will certainly be an NHLer. Nygren is more talented though, no doubt.

Ultimately, I don't think it changed that much. Outside of Nygren, Hudon, Kristo and Dietz no one really need to rise and no one really needs to fall outside of the people not signed...

The obsession with size on this board is why you have a guy like Ian Schultz placing higher than Magnus Nygren.

Obscure Euro hype always wins too.. I fall into it (Avtsin, Trunev & Pribyl RIP).

#14 on our list, Aaron Palushaj got traded during the season.
#16 Black Geoffrion suffers career threatening injury (nothing we could predict)
#22 Alexander Avtsin released
#24 Brendon Nash traded.
#25 Daniel Pribyl not signed
#29 Olivier Archambault not signed
#33 Dustin Walsh not signed
#34 Alain Berger released.

So 8 of our prospects in our 38 player deep pool are no longer going to be on the ballot when I run this poll post 2013 Draft.

Luckily, the best asset we might have lost is Black Geoffrion or Palushaj.... This doesn't hurt us much, both players acquired for scraps. There was also no high pick wasted there.

Truly sad that Blake might retire to me he was a good 3rd line guy abit down the road. Can't believe that hit that useless goon delivered to him

Feels like Dietz, Kristo, Dumont, Nygren, Pateryn and Hudon should all go up in that order.
Dietz is definitively top-10 maybe top-5.
Nygren was 31st in our list so he should get the most spectacular rise (top-10?).

Leblanc and Thrower have gone down.
But I hope both are going to rise again.
Leblanc because of his working ethics.
Thrower also dropped a lot.

Vail will probably go down but he increased his numbers despite playing on defense at some point during the season.

Out of that list: Galchenyuk, Gallagher Prybil, Palushaj, Goeffrion and Archambeault.

With Beaulieu, Tinordi and Dietz we are pretty loaded in defense.

Wat. At the end of last season he went on a tear in the AHL and even got called up to the Habs. He came into camp super fat and ruined his career, but there were strong thoughts he'd get a game or two this year before that.

At the NHL level, he'd play two minutes and fight. That's it.

And that's IF he'd make it to the NHL. He wouldn't.

There was still a decent chance he'd play in the NHL which shoots him up the rankings since Nygren was by no means a lock to ever play in NA at the start of the season.

I was at the game and saw the hit coming but thought he would just get smashed into the boards...it was so vicious live man, one i'll never forget.

Just a weird play cause Blake saw the hit coming too, you can see him look up before he gets hit and still stays there and takes the hit...I guess he didn't think the impact would be that bad...

Nygren shot up as a result of his progression. I understand that.

The fact that Schultz is even on the list makes me wonder. He was good in the WHL, he looked average in the AHL and he looks below average in the ECHL.

Well, we rated -every- prospect in the system.. He was going to be on the list no matter what but the fact he was any where but near the bottom of the trash heap is.. baffling.
