Lets just keep it safe:

jvr-bozie-kessel

lups-kadri-frattin

kom-kont-santa

Ashton-Holland-clarkson

Bodie

Gards-Dion

Rielly-Robidas

???-Polak

I would put Clarkson on the 4th line and forced him to work his way out of it. If it doesn't work with Frattin (i am really not convinced it will TBH) just put him on the 4th line and move Santa and Clarkson up one.

All 4 lines can be given good minutes now, as Nonis was suggesting he would like to do this season. The 4th and 3rd line can play the same number of minutes. Gardiner will be a top pairing D this season.

I think it's great that there are so many possible (realistic) lineups next year.

Given the "big" line's success last year, and with Carlyle back, it's a given that they'll start together, but after that, there's a lot of different ways you could go. Lines two through four should all be able to play (especially if we can slide Orr down into a mostly press box role), so that will give the team the flexibility to go with whichever line is clicking that night and/or whichever lines work best against the opponent.

Personally, I'd like to see Lupul moved off of Kadri's line. I'd like to see Kadri develop a more complete game, and I think Lupul would hinder that. I would rather see him with a two-way guy on one wing (probably the centre that gets pushed over), and then possibly Komarov on the other wing. Komie's a great energy guy that can act as the catalyst for the line, and it would also help him develop as well.

It would have been stupid to put Lupul on McClement's line last year obviously, but we now have other centres with some offensive skills, so we should have more options as to where he plays as well.

Going solely on what our Finnish and Canuck friends (what?) say. Both "Santa" and Kontiola are capable of playing in the top six. Our top six didn't exactly get us anywhere lately so.....

Lupul - Kontiola - Kessel
JVR - Kadri - Santorelli
Komarov -Bozak - Clarkson
Ashton - Holland - Frattin
Bodie

Rielly - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Polak
Granberg - Robidas

Holzer

Bernier
Macintyre

Yeah great idea dude aside from you know MacIntyre being signed, and breaking up what is possibly 1 of the top 5 lines in hockey.

Would Winnipeg take Kadri, Franson + Reimer for E Kane? If yes, I would go

JVR- Bozak- Kessel
Lupul- Holland- Kane
Komarov- Kontiola- Clarkson
Leivo- Santa- Ashton
13th fwd, Bodie

Gardiner- Phaneuf
Rielly- Robidas
Granberg- Polak
Holzer

Santa and Kontiola can switch depending on performance, and playing Leivo on a fourth line will bring him along slowly until he has to replace Lupul when he inevitably gets injured. One of Konti or Santa won't be back in 15/16. and Nylander should be ready to take a top 6 C role, pushing Holland to the #3C spot.

I think the basis for the team is this:

JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Santorelli
Komarov - Kontiola - Clarkson
Frattin - Holland - Ashton
Bodie/Orr

Phaneuf - Robidas
Gardiner - Polak
Rielly - Granberg/Ranger

On D, I think you'll see Robidas play with Rielly and Gardiner regularly, and I also think we may see one of them with Phaneuf as well.

Up front, our top line is set but after that I think everyone can move around. We might see:

Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
Komarov - Santorelli - Kontiola

Or we may see Frattin move up and play with Kadri again. Either way we have a number of second line players and some third line players; as opposed to last season where we seemed to have 2 fourth lines.

not bad considering we'd still have almost 5 million left over

It could be that Santorelli will be Bolland's replacement for #3 C. He's a viable replacement for Bolland and the most capable #3 C in the lineup now.

Frattin and Clarkson will compete for the 2nd/3rd line winger slot. That's a potential weak spot on our squad. Maybe another trade/UFA on its way?

Granberg - more likely to be a 3rd pairing defender.

There is no effen way Gardiner plays one pairing. It's utterly ridiculous.

And yes Santorelli is a faceoff man according to Nonis so he'll be either 3 or 4 c. Holland is odd man out.

Assuming Brodeur signs for $2.5M, there will be about $5.5M in cap space.

It's too bad about Mac...would have been a good backup, though not the end of the world.

Apparently Kontiola is better than Bozak. So just mixing things up. You would think a team with a top 5 line league wide would have done better.

I have to think that they're going to trade Franson for another D-Man. Not sure who. How about Demers, as someone suggested in another thread?

JVR - Bozak - Kessel (16M)
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson (12M)
Komarov - Santorelli - Frattin (5.5M)
Ashton - Holland - Kontiola (3M)
Bodie (600K)

Robidas - Phaneuf (10M)
Gardiner - Demers (7M)
Rielly - Polak (3.5M)
Granberg (800K)

Bernier (3M)
Reimer (2.5M)

Comes to about 64 million(say 65 million with our buyout/retained 200K for Gunnar). Not a bad lineup, IMO. Capable of hanging in there with most any team in the east. If things go poorly, we can decide who to get rid of at the deadline. If things go well, we can make a trade and add someone of significance at the deadline, with all that cap room we have.

:)

I like the lineup, but would switch up Rielly and Gardiner.
And I think the over/under for goals for that third line combined is set at 20. I'll bet the under lol. All defense.

I'm guessing we start with something like:

JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Santorelli
Komarov - Kontiola - Clarkson
Bodie - Holland - Frattin

Phaneuf - Robidas
Gardiner - Polak
Rielly - Granberg

Bernier
?

Though I do hope we give Frattin a shot at 2RW, he played really well with Kadri last time he was here.

I say we break up the top line and put Santorelli on there for JVR. Santorelli played really well with the Sedins last season when given the opportunity and he has scored 20 goals in the past. He will bring more hustle/scrappiness to that line and Kessel is known for making his linemates better. The 1st line might have scored a lot last year but they also gave up a lot of goals.

Santorelli Bozak Kessel

JVR Kadri Frattin

Lupul Kontiola Komarov

Bodie/Ashton Holland Clarkson

Phaneuf- Robidas

Gardiner- Polak

Rielly- Franson

This doesn't exactly mean too much.

Santorelli could simple take the draws for Nazem on the 2nd line, and they could end up switching off immediately after the draw.

His faceoff abilities have no reflection on Holland at all.

All 4 lines can be given good minutes now, as Nonis was suggesting he would like to do this season. The 4th and 3rd line can play the same number of minutes. Gardiner will be a top pairing D this season.

Like this lineup the best, that might be because of the fact I want to see Nylander play already

Why not? Gardiner was ES ice time leader last season. He is more than capable playing 1st pairing minutes.
