As the 2020 NHL Entry Draft approaches, we decided to examine each team’s best and worst pick since the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. The biggest boom is a player that had the best value relative to where they were selected. Meaning, no one in the first round will be considered a team’s best value pick. However, the biggest busts will almost always be in the first round. We will examine each player, why they were picked where they were, and what their NHL career was like. Today, we look at the Tampa Bay Lightning draft, and their biggest boom and bust.

Here is an Honourable mention for you.
Nikita Alexeyev

Alexeyev was drafted in the first round, eighth overall by the Lightning in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. In 159 games played, he put up 37 points. He returned to Russia in 2007-08 and stayed there until he retired in 2012-13. He never made a big impact in North America.

Riku Helenius 2006 nhl first rounder 15th pick never even became a back up goalie in Tampa bad pick by Feaster!
Feaster his forgiven for his past this because he built a cup team! He made a lot of good trades and signing for us. Now Jay is growing the support from the ground up at the local level.

In 2013-14, he made the jump to the NHL and made the team out of training camp.
He was even sent down to the minors where he put up 24 points in 17 games playing for the Syracuse Crunch.
Kuch didn’t make the team out of training camp. He started the season in Syracuse. He was called up end of November as an injury replacement for Ryan Malone, but was never sent back down.

Rick Dudley did way, WAAAAYYYYY more to build the Cup winning team. Feaster had to basically just sit on it. Whether it was all intentional or not, Dudley made so many trades it was like that story of someone starting with a stick of gum and bartering more valuable items until he ends up with a mansion

Fortunately we lucked out and Dudley got fired at just the right time before he traded Vinny. So we benefited from his madness but stopped before it became self destructive.

Holy crap that's right. I completely forgot that was a thing because I only started as an OG bandwagoner in 2004. Duds was friggin nuts man. I don't think there was a trade he WOULD NOT do. Wasn't it reported that he all but had a deal for ready to go? Yeah thank God that didn't happen... Vinny was streaky as hell in that Cup run but it's crazy to think game 7 vs Calgary might've been his best all playoffs when you consider that he all but beat Montreal on his own and nearly salvaged game 6 vs Philly to the point where we could've won the series that night.

Somewhere Kipper is still thanking God Vinny didn't ice game 7 at a 3-1 score with 3 minutes left on that breakway
