Just because nothing can change for a couple of weeks. So a "what if" post other than fantasy trade stuff. Everything that can be said has been multiple times but not this.

What if they were not here? What if they never were?

Turn on the way back machine Mr. Peabody. Back to the day when NHL hockey was on one station only and Saturday only.

Well Bettman has provided a couple of chances to find out. Lock outs.

Would fans stop being fans? I doubt it look at the sea of red when Les Canadiens are here or blue when the Maple Laffs are in town.

Last lock out I started scuba diving, absolutely fantastic in BC. Found a couple of golf courses I could afford but then I had a lot more funds that were not spent on hockey.

You know there are kids that play hockey too and some are not much below the current offerings and free.

Fishing was great back then but too many seals and sea lions now.

There are also many really good skiing destinations, world class.

There is still a football team in Vancouver too. Seattle 3 hours down the road with real professional teams.

Calgary and Edmonton are a short inexpensive flight away, sometimes they even give really good points rewards too.

And the disposable funds that became available, dinner out, travel, more kid time, less stress ;)

I am not advocating the franchise be moved, it has become an essential to so many fans that identify with the team but as the song goes "life goes on without me"

The amount of money spent by fans in one single game would support minor hockey for years in all jurisdictions.

This is a Canuck post, solely for frustrated fans and just the same as the hockey team, a distraction.

A logical progression from the posts, You can’t handle the Rebuild! and How much more can you take?

I am just heading in from work and this was the first alert I read.

I’m a hopeless optimist and will probably be until I meet my maker.

I might get discouraged in my fandom and even step back occasionally, but in the end…

I’m a born Canucks fan.

Merry Christmas everyone and may we all see brighter days ahead for ourselves and our team.

People keep chanting to “sell the team”.

1) it won’t happen as it’s worth 1 BILLION dollars and continues to rise every year.

2) if they did sell to say, an American owner they would probably move the team.

After that heartbreaking disappointment in 2011, this lifelong fan had to gain some perspective. It hasn't been easy. I will always care about my team and support the players. But I no longer have expectations. I will enjoy the great play of Elias Pettersson, for as long as we have him.

Every player that is drafted by, traded to, or signed by the Canucks picks up on the weight of this team's 52 year despair - from the fans and media. The blight is not their doing, but they bear the brunt of the pressure, much more than the owner or management.

Losing a very close family friend to cancer earlier this month has reinforced my attitude. I enjoy the good stuff when it happens, and let go of the rest.

Uhh…. Doesn’t point 1 directly contradict point 2?
Typically my posts do tend to do that.

Same here. 2011 took the fire out of me and made me the bitter pessimistic f*** you have come to hate today.

I still watch and hope but it’s with no expectation. It’s also hard to get behind any of the players as the team has 0 bite. 0 identity. Hard to get behind players with no personality. Also knowing none of these players will be here when the team is decent again.

tom gaglardi would buy the team tomorrow and sell the stars. then he'd hold "f*** the aqualinis" nights several times a year where an effigy of aquaman would be ritually burned in the concourse.

1. Agree

2. Not initially unless they eventually wants a new arena with funding to support and threaten to move if they don't receive it which is a long-term process anyway so it wouldn't happen overnight. No other reason to move the team, it's not like the owner has to live here to flex that he owns the team and enjoy the cash cow profits.

Bigger and much more realistic worry would be international buyer who mostly just cares about the bottom line and doesn't spend as much on and off the ice as he should(bright side, he hires a true head of hockey ops since he wont know shit about hockey).

Life goes on.
I switched fields from a jewellery salesman to a Quantity Surveyor in a Structural steel company and I am studying at night school.
I got married. I built a healthy habit of working out and playing guitar when im bored. I still play video games and am still pretty decent at Apex Legends.
I quit all my substance abuse thanks to me wife. This all started from last couple of year.

In the grand scheme of things, the canucks are insignificant to me.
I will still stand by this team tho. And im looking forward to the day that they give into the reality that this team requires a rebuild to hopefully win a cup.
But until then, I will only watch highlights and not spend a f***ing dollar on this joke of a franchise.

The NHL would never let an owner move the team out of Vancouver.

Although it would be sweet if they did, and then gave us an expansion team.
Of course they would if it paid well enough. They let Minnesota move (to hockey hotbed Dallas no less) didn't they?

I filled the post-2011 period with tons of porn (I'm mostly joking) until I found my wife...and now my 2 kids keep me super busy. I literally follow this product like how I followed WWF in the late 1990s. Mostly for the ridiculousness, drama and cheap laughs.

There is zero emotional attachment to this sport and franchise anymore. It's like a soap opera or trash TV for men. 2016-2021 really killed my interest in hockey. I would watch every WJC game, the IIHF hockey tournaments, any NHL game that was on TV even if it was the Ducks vs Flames game on Monday night. Benning and FAQ really f***ed it for me.

I'm now super into soccer again thanks to the success of the Womens and Mens national teams.

Hiding under WTG's bed...
Poor attendance, old arena, losing money. An owner who wanted to move because of impeding legal trouble.
How about poor atttendance, *NEW* arena, losing money? An owner who wanted to move to make $$$$$'s but was smarter than one of the Walmart heirs and lied about not moving the franchise.
