While Tre Kronor did not have a very strong tournament overall at the 1968 Olympics their performance in this game against the Soviets definitely stands out as a positive. In fact I would say that it was Firsovs standout performance which saved the Soviets in this game. I would also say that the Mayorov-Starshinov-Alexandrov line did not perform on the level that one might expect from such strong players which is rather well illustrated by Mayorov giving a goal away to the Swedish team and cutting the Soviets 2-goal lead down to a 1-goal lead with about 3 minutes left of the game.
