Watching it now.

Surprised to see Phil Esposito on almost every powerplay. He looks good too, generally speaking.

Hull is taking a lot of faceoffs. Howe takes some of them too.

(My notes were focused on Hull so some plays might be missing)

10 : 56 Gadsby smooth skating

12: 00 Hull faceoff vs Ullman (Ullman win)

Howe takes a slapshot from board, Ullman scores garbage goal

15: 00 Hull faceoff win

15: 09 Pilote spinorama to fool Howe.

16: 00 Hull triggers a penalty with a rush

16 : 40 Hull vs Howe faceoff (Howe wins after a struggle)

16 : 48 Howe looking smooth

17 : 46 Hull faceoff lose

18: 50 or so : Hull dodges a big open ice hit

22: 35 Hull's shot injures goalie on the shoulder

25 : 40 Howe backhand pass

26 : 39 Howe highstick penalty

28: 57 Espo on PP

30 : 25 Hull on defense on a 2 vs. 1 (PP)

30 : 38 or so Hull rush

31 : 55 Howe scores , Hull failed to cover him in time in front of the net

58 : 40 Hull mega bomb from the point PP goal (think it was 5 vs. 3, am watching with one eye so bear with me)

Will post more as I continue later.

Gadsby smooth skating
Later in the video commentator says something like "Crozier's stopped 13 shots but it seems like Gadsby's stopped six."

Doing this as a 38-year old in the concluding days of O-6. Upper Division Hall of Famer for a reason.

Howe highstick penalty
Also later, "Chico Maki's hit by... err... runs into Howe."

It's also pointed out that Detroit is without Doug Barkley. Also needs stating that Detroit had 2-0 & 3-2 leads in this series.

Gadsby is looking smooth as hell in that game, despite his age.

Though, that game was in 1965, where he had that rejuvenating year and finished 3rd in Norris.

Imagine the reputation Bill Gadsby would have had while he was playing - and decades later - if he had not played the first 15 years of his NHL career with two of the league's weak sisters: first, the Chicago Black Hawks, and then the New York Rangers. But even in the boondocks Bill attracted attention: in the boondocks on Lake Michigan, Gadsby was twice named to the second All Star team; and in the boondocks on Broadway, he was named to the All Star team four straight seasons (three times first team), and was second in the Norris voting three times.

1965 was a huge missed opportunity for DET.

Finished 1st overall with a better team than the one that had the previous 2 Cup Finals and made it back a year later.

Had 2-0 and 3-2 series leads against a good but not great CHI team, yet couldn't win at the Stadium and dropped a home game 7.

The Habs of 65 were solid but not spectacular. A worse Red Wing team gave a superior MTL version fits in the 66 Cup Finals.
