I'd love that for Marner. I feel like if he has a big year alongside Tavares this year, his ask will be 9+. But hopefully Dubas can lock him down for 8 years at 7.5, maybe 8. I feel like thats where it will end up at least.

With all these big contracts getting dished out and the cap only rising a few million every year, there is going to be a point where there is going to be no cap to keep signing all these contracts. 5 years from now, just how many players can you have signed on 8 year deals based on potential and still sign future rookies expecting the same treatment? Heavens forbid the cap goes down for once. Interesting times ahead.

If the Avs can sign Rantanen for anything under $7m, I'm happy. 4 years of Mack+Rantanen for under $13.5m would be amazing. Throw in the last 2 years of Landeskog's current deal, and it's (arguably) the best line in hockey from last year for less than $20m in cap hit.

A bargain no doubt. All those teams that signed their stars a few years ago have some nice bargain deals to build off of.

#1: Connor McDavid - 12.5
#2: Jack Eichel (76.4%) - 10
#3: Matthew Barzal (53%) - 10 (This is a wildcard, could be 12M)
#4: Ivan Provorov (70%) - 8.5
#5: Mitch Marner (45.8%) - 9
#6: Zach Werenski (45%) - 8.5
#7: Mikko Rantanen (39%) - 7.5
#8: Brock Boeser (53.1%) - 8
#9: Sebastian Aho (78.5%) - 9
#10: Kyle Connor (47.8%) - 6.6

Barzal was the hardest imo because if he has another season like last year, he's going to get more than JT.
The big 2 D I can see signing at 8.5 at a precedent set by the other. Both are #1D calibre, and the going rate for an elite D looks to be 8+.
Marner and Aho I put at 9M because I think both are about to have monster seasons. Aho is Carolina's franchise player, and Marner is poised to put up some big numbers with JT.

Really though the only huge contracts you're seeing are for the cream of the crop young stars. If it gets to the point where you have to dish out more than one of these contracts for RFAs, your team is probably in good shape.

Barzal is definitely the most interesting. If he goes ppg and outshines a guy like Matthews, you would have to think he puts himself in the 11-12 million conversation. I think he is capable as long as Trotz doesn't neuter his creativity.

Unlikely Provorov is getting 8.

Hextall will have failed as a GM if he bows down to 8 and, given Hextall's track record with Ghost & Couts, I have faith Hextall will get a favorable deal done.

It's not that Ivan isn't worth 8 cause he is and he's arguably our most irreplaceable player going forward, but Hextall needs to negotiate from the stand point that he's not even the PP QB and should be more in line with other young 40-45 point dmen. I'm hoping for 6.5-7. Was hoping for 6ish, but then the Rangers did that dumb Brady Skjei contract happened.

So long as Ghost exists and gets the PP1 spot, there is a ceiling at how high Provorov's point total will be and Hextall needs to use that to his benefit.

I don't think I agree. He was unanimously ahead of Marner, Connor, Nylander, Rantanen and Werenski in recent polls. 10th choice for Norris this year (2019). If those players are all slated in the 6.5-8 range, I am not sure why Provorov won't get close to it as well.

I don't think we could go to Nylander and say "Kadri is ahead of you in our PP lineup, so that sets a ceiling on your salary potential". I am guessing he would scoff at that logic.

Yeah, I don't think Provorov goes above 7 or so, based on closest comparables(Parayko, Ekblaad, etc) . If its 8 years at 7 mil, im certianly happy with that though.

Rantanen is a better player than Marner, so switch the contracts. Mikko will probably make around 7 million and Marner will finish around 6ish to 6.7 million.

Ekblad was 10.27% of the Cap when he signed. 10.27% of $79.5 million is $8.16 million.

Parayko’s contract was only 5 year term and Provorov value > Parayko value at the time of signing.

The only way you get Provorov for $7m AAV is if he regresses this year (which I doubt he does) or its a 6 year deal... which I think would be foolish of the Flyers, unless absolutely necessary for Cap management reasons.

I will build a monument in your honor if we can lock Marner down long-term for anywhere near that money.

Marner carries his line and Rantanen does not. Marner will make more. Not debating whose better. The role matters

He was carried by McKinnon, you mean.

Won't matter for much longer........ Tavares/Marner will destroy. :)

And Rantanen was able to score 20 goals as a rookie on the terrible 40 point season. So...

20 goals, 38 points as a rookie for Rantanen. Whoop-D-Do. Connor Brown pretty much did the same.

As opposed to Marner, who had 19 goals and 61 points as a rookie.

Marner is and will be a much begtter player than Rantanen will ever be.

If Barzal gets 12M I'm gonna laugh myself to death.
He's still got a lot to prove and he'll get all the chances in the world this year not playing behing Tavares.
