PHILADELPHIA FLYERS -- UNITED STATES PREMIER HOCKEY LEAGUE

See, there is a team playing at the Virtua Skate Zone here known as the Philadelphia Flyers that plays in the brand new United States Premier Hockey League.

What’s that league, you might ask?

The USPHL is uniquely positioned in the Atlantic region to facilitate a clear pathway for players graduating from Bantam hockey looking to progress through Midget and Junior Hockey on to college and pro hockey.

The USPHL will operate with 5 divisions – Premier, Elite and Empire at the Junior Level and 16U and 18U at the Midget level.

Each division provides a step in the progression to fulfilling a player’s ultimate goal of becoming a collegiate or professional hockey player.

Teams have been selected to participate in specific USPHL divisions based upon geography, strong player pools, rink ownership, financial strength and history of success and integrity at the highest level.

So what are the Phantoms going to look like realistically this season?

Akeson-Jones-Straka
Noebles-Cousins-Leier
Gordon-VandeVelde-Alderson
Stortini-Johnston-Mathers

Hagg-Alt
Manning-Ghost
Lamarche-Lauridsen

Stolie?
Zepp

Is there anyone I am missing or is out of place (I'm sure there is)?

EDIT: This assumes PEB and Laughton make the team. I think the last spot on the team will be between Akeson and PEB. I've never been a big Akeson fan so I gave it to PEB but in reality I'd say it is a toss-up.

Akeson would probably be claimed on waivers. If he's not on the Flyers I think he'll be on some other NHL team.

Meh. I'm not so sure about that. Not saying he wouldn't, but I think his reputation around here is different than how other folks view him. That being said, I wouldn't be too concerned if he were claimed, because that would mean Laughton and PEB made the team in all likelihood. I suppose we could stick Laughton in the minors just to avoid the potential of having Akeson get claimed, but I'd rather see him at the NHL and risk losing Akeson provided of course, that Laughton does actually make the team. I wouldn't force it or anything. If Akeson makes the team, great. If not, and he does actually get claimed, no harm done.

Based on his AHL performances on a bad team and his great playoff showing he would almost certainly get claimed.

Last year in the AHL he had the 3rd most points of any player under 24. And has been putting up more PPG than a lot of other teams 'top' prospects.

It would just be a waste of an asset... he is a superior player to McGinn in most facets of hockey and McGinn garnered a 3rd round pick in the offseason.

If he cannot make the team this year (and I am almost certain he will) just flip him for a 3rd or 4th. (well, as high a pick as we can get.)

Akeson caught some attention in the playoffs this year. He was our best offensive player for long stretches against the Rangers, and it didn't go unnoticed. I have very, very little doubt he'd be claimed.

It would be a loss of an asset for no reason.

If only that line were as good as it sounds...

Does no one think that Powe could be with the Phantoms or are you guys just forgetting him?

Powe will make it. He could reasonably be a top 6 forward, but will probably be a bottom sixer and be the NHL vet in the locker room.

Now if only we could get Frank Bialowas to come out of retirement...

You might be the only one who thinks this. In no way is Powe a top 6. He's not even close. He hasn't played very many games in the NHL for the past 3 years and doesn't even have an NHL contract.

I thought he meant Powe will be the NHL vet in top 6 on the Phantoms. Otherwise it doesn't make sense.
