KEY MATCHUP
Matthews vs. Werenski
Leafs centre Auston Matthews is a leading candidate for the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year, but defenceman Zach Werenski is making a case for himself. The Blue Jackets rookie has two goals and nine assists in March, compared to a goal and an assist for Matthews over the same time frame.
NEED TO KNOW
Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky leads the NHL with 39 wins. . . . Columbus has won four straight and seven of its last eight. . . . The Blue Jackets have clinched the third playoff berth in team history, and with 100 points have a shot at the Presidents’ Trophy. . . . John Tortorella is the eighth NHL coach to have 100-point seasons with three different franchises (also with the Lightning and Rangers). . . . Centre Alexander Wennberg, who leads the Blue Jackets in assists (42) and is second in points (54), missed Sunday’s game against Washington with an upper-body injury.

THE BIG MATCHUP
John Tortorella vs. Mike Babcock
We’ll go out on a limb and say bench brains had something to do with the two worst teams in the Eastern Conference last year now being in playoff position. Torts, who just became the eighth NHL coach to have 100 points with three NHL teams, seems to have toned down his act, while his club pursues a possible Presidents’ Trophy. Babcock’s boys have left too many points on the table, but have taken three of a possible four against Chicago and Boston entering this game.

GAME 72: BLUE JACKETS VS. MAPLE LEAFS
NATIONWIDE ARENA, 7:00 P.M.
TV: FOX SPORTS OHIO / FOX SPORTS GO
RADIO: 97.1 & BLUEJACKETS.COM
The Blue Jackets may have secured a playoff spot, but there are still games to be played and points to be gained.
The next opportunity to do just that comes Wednesday when the Jackets welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs to Nationwide Arena for the second time this season. The last time these two teams met, Toronto was coming into town off a back-to-back, and the Jackets won 5-2.
This time, the game marks the opening matchup of a back-to-back for the Jackets. It is also the first of six games the home team will play in the next ten days.
