Is that the math student turned analytics guy he talked about?

No.

Jim Hiller is a former player who moved into coaching early in the 2000's from what I recall.

EDIT: I just checked. He started coaching in 2002, so he's been around for quite a while. Not surprised Babcock would want to bring at least some of his former staff with him.

I was wondering how a math student would be drawing up plays for the PP...lol

i dunno who this is, but if he is v. analytical I am betting he + Dubas will get along great to help some of the little nuances etc.

i wonder what is gonna happen with Boucher. there aren't any more head-coaching jobs (minus SJ?) so maybe him being a Ass. Coach here will be a good step.

I think STL is still up in the air.

Reports were he had other offers he was looking at.

Leafs should hire one of the good coaches that don't find a team this season as an assistant then get a draft pick when positions inevitably open next year.

Well that's one, but I still have a feeling we'd get another two assistant coaches. PK specialist and a guy whom knows how to do both offense and defense... Ideas?

Paul McLean from Ottawa. He would be a perfect assistant coach IMO. He could probably handle the defense/PK side. If not, I'd just hire him to give another valuable voice beside Babcock and then hire another guy to do PK.

Hiller and Todd McLellan are really powerful on the PP book. This is all good for us. Expect to see some of those front mans getting into all those goalies faces next season. Detroit is known for that. (Holmstrom, Franzen etc.) They score a lot.
McLellan of course is not good as a motivator, but he is a fine coach in so many other ways. He can't motivate enough though, won't never win the cup as a head coach. Babcock is much better and so much more special.

Turned the 17th ranked PP into the 2nd ranked PP.

Detroit's PP was lethal this season.

Shanahan really is putting together one hell of a staff, both behind the bench, and in the office.

Looked it up for the other thread, Detroit's PP effectiveness the past few seasons. Hiller came on board last year:

2014-15: 23.8 (2nd)
2013-14: 17.7 (18th)
2012-13: 18.4 (15th)
2011-12: 16.1 (22nd)

Maybe the Leafs should hoard all of the good available coaches and turn them into picks :sarcasm:
